Another Japanese KitKat review to catch up to the many flavours that were released in the last few years. This time there are seven flavours to review: Save the Blue Ocean, Melon, Pistachio, Strawberry Milk, Summer Ice Cream, Banana Caramel and Matcha Latte.

Unfortunately it took quite a while for these to arrive and some of the flavours seem to melt quicker than others. Even though they might’ve lost their shape a little, they still tasted the same.

Nestlé – KitKat Mini Save the Blue Ocean
Price: ± €9 for a bag of 11

As their name suggests, Nestlé Japan donates money (10 yen) to protect the oceans with each purchased bag.

The flavour also goes well with the ocean theme, but don’t worry: they are not as salty as the ocean itself. The creamy white chocolate isn’t overly sweet, but balances out the salt flavour quite well. Surprisingly this was a pretty good combination and didn’t leave much of a salt aftertaste.

Nestlé – KitKat Mini Melon
Price: ± €8 for a bag of 11

Melon is definitely a present flavour in this KitKat, but not too strong either. The chocolate is creamy and not overly sweet. Although I’m not a huge fan of melon, I did enjoy this one.

Nestlé – KitKat Mini Pistachio
Price: ± €8 for a bag of 11

This flavour was pretty bitter, although it is still milk chocolate. The crunchy wavers had a green colour to them. I enjoyed these, but I can’t say Pistachio was a very present flavour in these either. There was a hint of pistachio, but mostly a bitter chocolate flavour.

Nestlé – KitKat Mini Strawberry milk
Price: ± €8 for a bag of 12

Creamy chocolate with an artificial strawberry flavour to it. This one was sweeter than the other so far and sweeter than most of the other strawberry KitKats I’ve tried, probably because there was no sour note to it. It wasn’t super sweet, but I personally prefer a little bit of a sour flavour when it comes to strawberry KitKats.

Nestlé – KitKat Mini Summer Ice Cream
Price: ± €8 for a bag of 12

This one has more crunchy wafer pieces than any other flavour so far, because there are bits of crushed crispy crêpes in the chocolate layer for some extra crunch. It has a sweet vanilla flavour to it and did resemble the flavour of vanilla ice cream.

Nestlé – KitKat Mini Banana Caramel
Price: ± €7 for a bag of 10

Despite the milk chocolate, the first flavours I noticed were banana and caramel. The chocolate is a bit bitter, but you don’t notice that until after you’ve tasted the other flavours. It isn’t a KitKat I would’ve thought of, when thinking up flavours, but it is a nice combination.

Nestlé – KitKat Mini Matcha Latte
Price: ± €8 for a bag of 11

This KitKat was pretty creamy and had a more subtle matcha flavour than the other matcha KitKats I’ve tried. I’m still not a big fan of matcha, but I thought this KitKat was pretty okay. If you are a matcha fan I’m sure you’ll like this one more than I do.

This batch of KitKat Mini’s was full of different flavours and although I liked quite a few of them, there was no definite favourite this time. The one I liked the least was the matcha latte, but that’s no surprise since I’m not a huge fan of matcha.

If you want to try out some Japanese KitKat Mini’s yourself, but don’t want to buy whole bags full, there are plenty of webshops that sell sets of different flavours.

Which Japanese KitKats are your favourites? Or which were the ones you didn’t like? Let us know!

Colourful artistic cover of TsuShiMaMiRe 20th full-length album バンドは水物 (MIZUMONO), featuring the three members at that time, vocalist and guitarist Mari, bass player Yayoi and drummer Maiko. There are masks drawn on their faces and on top of it the band name and album title in a font that seems like splashes of water.
