AVO Magazine is looking for volunteers who want to help out by writing interesting Japan-related articles. Do you have no problem with writing interesting pieces, do you enjoy creating articles, and do you love Japanese music and (pop) culture? Join AVO Magazine!
The online web magazine has good contacts with conventions in the Netherlands and outside, musicians, and other creative people. These connections give AVO Magazine the opportunity to share a lot of news, interesting interviews, reviews and reports with the readers of AVO Magazine. Promoting lesser-known artists has always been important for AVO Magazine as well as artists who got their breakthrough, to expand the world of the readers of AVO Magazine more and more. We have been doing the same by hosting various concerts and festivals.
What are we looking for?
Currently, we are looking for guest writers who know a thing or two about the Japanese music scene, and love to write reviews, informative articles, concert/event reports and/or do interviews! So if you are interested in Japanese music and are willing to dive into the information, please email us! We look for those who are serious and don’t mind dedicating their free time to article series. In addition, we are looking for some translators (Japanese, English, Dutch). News Department
Over the years, AVO Magazine is known in being up-to-date in terms of news articles about upcoming concerts, tours and events. For years, this was mostly kept up to date by one person, but some extra help is now needed to keep it up to date. Sometimes it deviates from concert and tour news, but in many cases the focus is really on upcoming gigs. It is recommended to pair this role with another writer’s role.
What is expected:
- Keep an eye on the news and pass it on when you find something that needs to be shared.
- You are able write an news article with the official information you found or received.
- You have the time to write news regularly, at least once a week (more is welcome).
- You know how to write in Dutch and/or British English,
- Knowledge of Japanese is welcome.
- You are open to feedback, are communicative strong and can work together.
- You do not mind proofreading another writer’s article.
- You love to come up with ideas and think with the team to make AVO Magazine stronger.
Reviews Department
You are interested to write music reviews, think of albums and singles. We also often deviate in terms of reviews and then review anime, manga, books and the like. In a lot of cases, you will be provided with material you can use for the review, but you are also welcome to make your own suggestions of music (or something other) you would like to review. These days, we mostly get requests for reviews with links to streaming services, keep this in mind. It is recommended to pair this role with another writer’s role.
What is expected:
- You are interested to write music reviews (albums, singles).
- You know how to write in Dutch and/or British English.
- Knowledge of Japanese is welcome.
- You have the time to write a review once a month. (more is welcome)
- You can stick to (strict) deadlines.
- You are open to feedback, are communicative strong and can work together.
- You do not mind proofreading another writer’s article.
- You love to come up with ideas and think with the team to make AVO Magazine stronger.
Live reports Department
We are based in the Netherlands, but have an international team with a focus on Europe. This allows us to write reports on concerts in various places in Europe, supported by photos. In case you are not opposed to going to concerts or events as a live reporter to write about them or as a photographer, for which press passes may be made available in some cases, this might be an interesting challenge. It is sometimes necessary for the photographer to write a short text to support the live report, but in other cases you are teamed up with a live reporter. It is recommended to pair this role with another writer’s role.
What is expected:
- You write live reports about events you attend (most of the times a press pass is arranged).
- You know how to write in Dutch and/or British English.
- Knowledge of Japanese is welcome.
- You can stick to (strict) deadlines
- You are open to receive and give feedback, are communicative strong and can work together.
- You do not mind proofreading another writer’s article.
- You love to come up with ideas and think with the team to make AVO Magazine stronger.
Translator Department
There are many situations where translation is needed, such as for communications, (mail) interviews, articles in English or Dutch by other writers. If you want to do a bit more for the website, it might be an idea to take up one of the writing roles.
What is expected:
- You are able to translate texts (Japanese to English, English to Japanese or English to Dutch, Dutch to English).
- You have knowledge of Dutch and/or British English and/or Japanese.
- You will be mostly translating interviews and other articles.
- You have the time to translate regularly and you can stick to (strict) deadlines.
- You are open to receive and give feedback, are communicative strong and can work together.
- You do not mind proofreading another writer’s article.
- You love to come up with ideas and think with the team to make AVO Magazine stronger.
