It is happening again! From Friday 6 to Sunday 8 May, the fifth edition of YouTube Music Weekend will take place, a weekend full of Japanese music, organised by YouTube Japan. The headliners of the weekend are the duo DREAMS COME TRUE, musician Kenshi Yonezu and the band Mr.Children.

In addition – this is a first – American electronic DJ and production duo The Chainsmokers will join in this edition by screening their latest live video, recorded during their show in London. Popular South Korean YouTuber Raon will also open all days with a performance.

Furthermore, a collaboration has been made with Tokyo International Music Market (TIMM), which has already been doing a good job during the pandemic by showing live performances via YouTube, but also recently with the TIMM Showcase Live Series where more Japanese artists get the chance to introduce their music to an international audience, as well as promoters and distributors. During YouTube Music Weekend vol.5, the second edition of this live series will be held.

All in all, a programme has been put together with 65 artists, showing live recordings, (brand-)new and older material. The night programme will consist of Vtuber programming, under the name YouTube Music Weekend vol.5 Midnight. This is a good chance to enjoy old favourites, but also to discover new names.

The content will be featured in the YouTube Music Weekend playlist and the YouTube Music Weekend Midnight playlist.

The timetables for de daytime and midnight programming are subject to change.

The members are dressed in leather(-like) clothing, giving the idea that it is inspired by motor clothing. The clothing is mostly black but differently decorated, with red and blue stripes, white stars in different sizes, and other symbols or words. Some of them are fully dressed like that, while others have extra additions, like a tartan-style skirt. Photography by JJ Grant (wonderlens)
