You’d be forgiven if you didn’t watch the MONSTER IDOL segments on TBS Suiyobi no Downtown (Wednesday’s Downtown) which aired between November and December 2019, but it consisted of a survival audition to create the new WACK group MAMESHiBA NO TAiGUN.

MAMESHiBA NO TAiGUN consists of members Hanaemonster, Nao of Nao, Aika The Spy, Miyukiangel and Kaedephoenix.

On June 10, 2020, they released their MV for 豆柴の大群-お送りするのは人生劇場-; (Mameshiba no Taigun – Ookurisuruno Wa Zinseigekijou/I’m Going to Show You The Theatre of my Life).

The MV begins with the members Hanaemonster (green), Nao of Nao (blue), Aika The Spy (red), Miyukiangel (pink) and Kaedephoenix (purple) on stage, dressed in the typical black group outfits with individual colour-tipped collars, before suddenly being transported into what appears to be edamame Kigurumi, before beginning the choreographed dance.

The video consists mainly of the dance routine, close-up headshots and the group using their bodies to spell out hiragana, before a series of dramatic fatality scenarios are performed.

The music video itself is lighthearted and entertaining, humorous and enjoyable, the use of colour, editing style and premise suit the energetic nature of the track.

The song is upbeat, fast-paced and energetic. The verses contain powerful vocals from each member, with a strong, catchy and memorable chorus. The backing track is contagious and fits well with the vocal presentation.

The song is the opening track on MAMESHiBA NO TAiGUN’s debut album START –  so if the remainder of the album is as catchy and powerful as this track, then MAMESHiBA NO TAiGUN will be off to a great start.

Rating: 80/100

MAMESHiBA NO TAiGUN’s debut album START is now available for purchase.
