Musical snack: MIRROR in their own short film POLARIZE

In February, the Japanese-American musical unit MIRROR released their second EP, titled POLARIZE, including 7 tracks. Today (Japanese time) a short film got published on the YouTube channel of Spincoaster, with the songs that you can find back on this EP.

The video is presented as a short film, and it is exactly what the description says, a short film with a compilation of the 7 tracks supported by an atmospheric video where certain scenes are played out. The video got directed by Kento Yamada (also a band member in the band yahyel) and Kenny Okagaki, partly filmed in Tokyo and Los Angeles.

The result is a cinematic 11-minute music video with a dose of acting by the two members of the unit, as a couple, where you would almost have the feeling that you hopped in a film, but also a serving of the kind of music videos that we are used to, where the group members are singing their songs as the music unit MIRROR. There is a bit of storyline to be found, but it is thin-layered and maybe not even noticeable. Although that doesn’t matter for the result of this short film, since the directors looked at delivering beautiful atmospheric images with the two protagonists in it.

MIRROR consists of Japanese-American Takumi, who grew up in the Bay Area of California and who currently divides his time between Japan and the United States, and the Japanese Mei. Takumi is the main producer of the musical unit, and both group members act as vocalists. Their sound is an amalgamation of the music the two grew up on, mostly based on hip hop and R&B but also span to electronic and alternative influences. MIRROR’s latest EP can be found back on the major streaming services.
