Indie punk band BO-PEEP just released their newest album, COLORS, and to promote this album, they released the music video for the song LET IT DIE〜New day〜. The song consists of an attractive and infectious guitar riff that sets the heavy atmosphere of the song as if everything will be built up and released when the chorus starts. In the chorus, BO-PEEP pull out all the stops and it feels as it is the climax of the song.

The music video is directed by filmmaker Kensei Takahashi, who is best known for his film Kaibatsu (2018). The story of the music video is set in the city of Tokyo, where certain storylines take place. The highlight of the video is the girl who is so angry, that she manifests into a Girl-Godzilla and attacks the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Shinjuku. Interesting to know is that the video was shot in two days with a specially-adapted iPhone, which proves once again that it is not that difficult anymore to make cool music videos by a smartphone. The storylines in the video are not directly easily to understand, and feels somewhat random because we cannot hear what they are saying, it feels interesting enough to keep on watching what will happen with all the people. Eventually, they will all see the Girl-Godzilla which surprise them, it gives the idea that all the anger of those characters ensured that the Girl-Godzilla eventually came to life.

BO-PEEP was formed in Fukuoka in 2000. They are known by their intense live shows and that brought them to the United Kingdom and the United States and caught attention by music magazines such as NME, i-D and Neo. The band performed at big music festivals around the world, including Fuji Rock Festival in Japan, The Great Escape and In the City in the United Kingdom, and SXSW in the United States. The band consists of vocalist and guitarist Mika and drummer Ryoko. In 2015, the two decided to start their own label, B-P MUSIC, to support their band’s musical ventures. The album Thank You was the first release by this label. COLORS is the fifth album of the hand of BO-PEEP and is produced by Lee Popa (whose 30-year career includes Ministry, TOOL, Killing Joke) and Jolee Popa, the album was possible thanks to the support of the fans of the band by means of an international crowdfunding campaign.

LET IT DIE〜New day〜 was a good choice to introduce the newest album of BO-PEEP to the fans, as the song is catchy enough to play on repeat and especially loud, but the music video is very engrossing which makes it a good combination with the song.

Rating: 75/100
