String Orchestra Nanagen to The Netherlands for Siebold Project Orchestra 2019

String Orchestra Nanagen from Tokyo will come back to The Netherlands for the fourth time. Previous visits resulted in successful performances. The orchestra consists of young people who learn to play a string instrument via the Suzuki method. The idea behind this method is that children learn to play a musical instrument according to the same principles with which they learn their mother tongue. The members of the orchestra are between 12 and 22 years old.  The whole is led by the Japanese-Dutch conductor Kent Moussault.

A couple of performances will take place during their stay in The Netherlands, including a classical concert in Maarssen, where the orchestra performs alone. In addition to well-known classical works for string orchestra, the orchestra will also perform three different Japanese compositions this evening: Ghibli film music, Hatsune Miku music and Japanese folk music.

During two other performances the Japanese musicians will perform with the Dutch musicians under the name Siebold Projectorkest. These performances are organised by Talent on Stage Orchestra from Leiden, the orchestra with which Japanese m,usicians will perform. Together they perform works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Edvard Grieg and the young Dutch composer Melle Heij. Heij has written a work based on a rediscovered Japanese melody by Siebold. A Dutch and a Japanese-Dutch soloist also perform.

Wednesday 27 March: Dorpskerk – Maarssen, The Netherlands
Friday 29 March: Het Leidse Volkshuis – Leiden, The Netherlands
SundayZondag 31 March: Concertgebouw – Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Tickets can be bought in advance and at the door, except for the performance in Maarssen, where you can buy at the door. In July, Talent op Stage Orchestra goes to Tokyo for a couple of performances there.
