Re:O to make live comeback in London as four-piece band with metal x dark pop fusion

It’s been a while since we wrote about Re:O, then a solo project by singer-songwriter Rio Suyama. She has since moved to the United Kingdom to continue working on her music project and this eventually transformed into a four-piece band with vocalist and keyboardist Rio at the forefront, joined by bassist James Wright, guitarist Jon Roberts and drummer James Stevens.

About two years after the release of 失楽園 (Shitsurakuen), the revamped version of Re:O came out with the digital release of Stains On My Soul, which ushered in a new era for the music project and with it, in this song, Re:O hinted at wanting to depart from their previous releases. This was well received, leading the band to take things a step further with the release of digital track Ronin, which clearly indicates the direction of how the Japanese/British band nowadays introduces their sound: metal x dark pop.

The fifth single from the hand of Re:O seems to be something of a reference to Rio Suyama’s musical journey before arriving at the current format of Re:O, the four-piece dark pop metal band. The newest single Ronin reflects the emotional journey of being lost and self-discovery, a theme that might resonate with Re:O’s evolution; from a solo project to a full-fledged band.

With these two new releases under their belt, the revamped band will perform in London for the first time in late August, more than a year after Re:O’s last gig, at that time in a different format. The performance is scheduled for Friday 30 August at the pub and music venue Spice of Life, located in London’s Soho.

It is a multi-performance event organised by Hot Vox in which several acts from the local music scene will take the stage, including alt-metal quintet Paint Me Crimson, rock band Radfax and the Filter Flask, hard rock band Nocturnal Sun, rock band poppyshow, and in between dark pop metal band Re:O. All in all, a packed evening of rock and metal music to get the weekend off to a good start. Tickets are available onlineand at the door.
