Church of Misery back to Europe for a tour after nearly four years
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on RedditShare on Tumblr

They are ‘back from the grave’, after roughly four years doom metal band Church of Misery will return to Europe for a tour. Last summer they have announced a new album and the four-piece is now eager to go on a European tour next May. The European tour will kick off at Desertfest in London on the fifth of May.

Earlier in January, the band announced that all songs from the new album have been recorded and the finishing touches are being added as we speak. No release date is known yet for the follow-up to the 2016 album And Then There Were None…, but we do know that bass guitarist, bandleader and sole constant band member Tatsu Mikami has collaborated with vocalist Kazuhiro Asaeda (the original vocalist of Church of Misery, but also active in Sonic Flower), guitarist Yukito Okazaki (Eternal Elysium) and drummer Toshiaki Umemura (Sonic Flower, ex-AUMA). It had also been shared how many songs fans can expect, around seven, with the themes linked to them. And those themes involve notorious (serial) killers and cult leaders combined with heavy & doomy music, for the upcoming album names like H.H. Holmes, Frits Haarmann and David Koresh have been mentioned.

Church of Misery’s activities started in 1995 and the metal band has released 5 full-length albums. The band has gone through a lot of line-up changes, leaving bassist Tatsu Mikami as the only original member who has been active in the band from the start. He also writes the music for Church of Misery. Besides Church of Misery, Mikami is also active in the psychedelic rock band Sonic Flower, which can be seen as an offshoot of Church of Misery.

Church of Misery European Tour 2023 Dates

Friday 5 May, 2023: Desertfest – London, United Kingdom
Sunday 7 May, 2023: Bastard Club – Osnabrück, Germany
Tuesday 9 May, 2023: Copenhagen, Beta – Copenhagen, Denmark

Thursday 11 May, 2023: Musikens Hus – Gothenburg, Sweden
Friday 12 May, 2023: Debaser – Stockholm, Sweden
Sunday 14 May, 2023: Hafenklang – Hamburg, Germany
Monday 15 May, 2023: Junkyard – Dortmund, Germany
Tuesday 16 May, 2023: Goldgrube – Kassel, Germany
Thursday 18 May, 2023: Soulstone Gathering Festival @ Kamienna12 – Kraków, Poland
Friday 19 May, 2023: Desertfest – Berlin, Germany
Saturday 20 May, 2023: Sonic Rites @ Ääniwalli – Helsinki, Finland

For those who have no chance to see Church of Misery in May, might need to keep an eye on the tour planning of Church of Misery this summer. They have been confirmed for a show at the Czech festival Brutal Assault and Sonic Blast in Portugal. This might mean that more European shows will be added to the schedule.
