Recently I purchased a few Japanese Candy kits and I will review all of these for AVO. This is not a sponsored review and because of this I won’t mention where I bought this set, if you do an online search using the name of this kit you’ll be able to find this one in several webshops.

Most of the Popin Cookin kits have English instructions, which you can find here.
With this kit you create cute candies, out of coloured water. There are different moulds, in my kit there was a mould with a fish, a penguin and a crab. Personally this set reminded me of the Kyan Land set, because of the liquid colours. In total this kit kept me busy for about half an hour.
The kit is as easy to do, the only thing that takes some effort is filling the moulds with specific colours, but you could ‘colour’ it in really simply instead.
The final product looks cute, it’s very easy get a good result. Only the eyes and mouth of the penguins are a little harder to make. As you can see on the picture the candies resemble the ones on the packaging well, but they don’t quite resemble the texture. You can decide for yourself which colours to use. As long as those colours are a combination of pink, blue and yellow.
All of the liquid colours had a bit of a weird aftertaste, but aside from that they tasted pretty much like described on the packaging. Yellow was lemon, blue was ramune flavoured and pink was grape.
The texture of the candies is a little powdery, but still very gelatine-like. When you eat candies with all of the colours in them the lemon flavour is most dominant, probably because this is the flavour of the powder.
TIP: Don’t overfill the moulds, use as little of the coloured liquid as possible.
Want to enjoy this kit again?
Clean the mould with warm water, after using it, and let it air dry. Don’t use soap when cleaning this mould.
If you want to reuse the moulds you could use it to cut cookie dough or fondant.
