The four-piece pop-punk band MIKABOMB made a comeback on the live scene last year, touring the United Kingdom and Japan, as well as performing in the Netherlands. At the end of this month, the four women will kick off a new tour in the United Kingdom, once again performing at the Moseley Punk Festival and the Rebellion Festival.
MIKABOMB got their start in London when vocalist Mika Handa started to live in the United Kingdom and decided to form a punk band. This led to the formation of a fully-fledged band and a record deal with the Beastie Boys’ label, Grand Royal. After releasing several singles, Grand Royal went under, and MIKABOMB managed to release their debut album The Fake Fake Sound of MIKABOMB on another label, Damaged Goods, in 2001. This album was followed four years later by another, HellCats, once again effortlessly blending catchy melodies with the raw energy of garage rock.
In 2006, the band split up, only to return in 2010 with a new line-up, performing the occasional gig in Europe. Eventually, the band went quiet until early 2025, when it was announced that the Japanese pop-punk band would be travelling to Japan for the first time for a five-date tour. The band has since travelled to Japan for a second tour. The band currently consists of vocalist Mika Handa, guitarist Mel Roxy, bassist Emiko and drummer Debbie. The band’s name is sometimes also written as MIKA BOMB, due to the bullet hole between MIKA and BOMB in the logo.
