Hibushibire to return to Europe with a new tour and brand-new fifth studio album

The psychedelic rock band Hibushibire are returning to Europe this August with a new tour and a new album, entitled Phantom Fuzzy Exotica. The band’s fifth studio album is due for release on 28 August, during the European tour of the four-piece band from Osaka. The tour consists of more than 20 shows in August and September.

The tour kicks off in the United Kingdom on 19 August with a gig in Liverpool. After eleven shows there, the band will head to mainland Europe for gigs in France, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. The rock band was also in Europe on tour last October. A live report of one of those gigs has recently been posted online; you can find it here.

Founded by singer and guitarist Changchang and bassist 821 as an improvisational jam rock band in 2012, the Osaka-based band has released several albums, including Freak Out Orgasm! in 2017, Turn On, Tune In, Freak Out in 2019 and Magical Metamorphosis Third Eye in 2023, following a long hiatus and a change in line-up. Last year, the band released their first studio album with their current line-up, Flashback Stonehenge.

Hibushibire’s music is heavily influenced by Acid Mothers Temple, 1960s hard rock, 1970s progressive rock and various psychedelic genres. The band’s name, Hibushibire, comes from an old Japanese slang term that can be roughly translated as ‘freak-out orgasm’. The band currently consists of guitarist and vocalist Changchang, bassist Tetsuji Toyoda, drummer Aoi Hama and percussionist Kohei Katsuma on congas and theremin.
