Utrecht-based festival Le Guess Who? has revealed its full line-up for the 2021 edition. The 14th edition of the festival is planned to take place from 11 to 14 November. It is clear that people are looking forward to a full festival like Le Guess Who? because ticket sales are going well. The 4-Day tickets are sold out now, but there are still day tickets.

Let’s take a look at the line-up

Last week, the festival shared 70 names to make the full line-up complete. Le Guess Who? is dedicated to sharing and exploring boundary-crossing music & culture from all over the world. Looking through the names of these musicians, a few names stand out that fits the theme of AVO Magazine: music from Japan.

In our last article, it was noted that the festival announced the artists that curated the programmes for the 14th edition, including Midori Takada. She will also perform as part of Ton-Klami, her free jazz improvisation trio with pianist Masahiko Satoh and saxophonist Kang Tae Hwan.

Japanese rock band DMBQ, curated by John Dwyer, will also perform at Le Guess Who? 2021. DMBQ stands for Dynamite Masters Blues Quartet and the band is influenced by British and American rock music from the early 1970s.

Another interesting mention is Ichiko Aoba has been gaining more and more attention over the world, especially after the release of the seventh album, アダンの風 (Adan no kaze, Windswept Adan).

Curated by Phil Elverum and earlier announced, Tokyo-based duo Tenniscoats will be performing on the Thursday of the festival. The indie-pop duo is comprised of real-life couple Saya and Takashi Ueno and has been active for more than 20 years.

Originally from Japan, but for more than a decade active in Europe, Kiki Hitomi and Shigeru Ishihara are WaqWaq Kingdom and produce tribal bass music, although their sound is hard to describe, what you can expect is a colourful and psychedelic performance.

About Le Guess Who?

Le Guess Who?’s goal of bringing people together has not changed in recent times, and neither has its international focus: the organisation is currently working hard to bring as many different sounds and voices to Le Guess Who? as possible. Throughout the years Le Guess Who? has involved guest curators to invite their inspirations and like-minded artists to perform at the festival. The full line-up for Le Guess Who? 2021 can be found on the website of the festival.
