When BILLIE IDLE disbanded in December 2019, it was unclear what iconic WACK idol Pour Lui would do next.
In the month that followed, she would announce a solo album Minna no Pour Lui II (みんなのプー・ルイ II) released under WACK, the founding of her own company PourPourLand and the announcement of a new group that she would produce and be a member of. This later announcement would eventually be revealed as PIGGS. PIGGS consists of members Pour Lui, UMI, CHIYO-P, BAN-BAN and SHELLME.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Pour Lui and the members of PIGGS have been living together in an apartment, taking part in daily, live-streamed challenges available on YouTube, with the campaign titled I HATE PIGGS.
On June 21, 2020, the debut music video of PIGGS, titled モナ・リザ (Mona Lisa) was released ahead of their upcoming debut album HALLO PIGGS.
The video consists of close-up shots of the members Pour Lui, UMI, CHIYO-P, BAN-BAN and SHELLME, concealed as though they are packed away, beneath items scattered across the room, before they are seen emerging from a wooden coffin and finally revealed on a stage where they dance and perform the song. Visually, the video is well-produced, good quality and the colour pallet is appealing to the style, although the actual substance of the video seems more relaxed and independently-made.
It’s a great introduction to the group, their first music video after months of watching their antics and challenges over a live stream.
The track itself is catchy, with calm and relaxed vocals, appearing to showcase the member’s vocal range and singing ability, the chorus holds a harmony with the members, which you’ll find yourself singing along to. It’s a good introduction to show what they are capable of, and it will be interesting to see what the future holds for PIGGS.
So, the question is: Will you HATE PIGGS or LOVE PIGGS?
Rating: 60/100
