Singer-songwriter Hideki Sakomizu is living his dream by travelling and performing his music all over the world as an international Japanese musician. He wasn’t happy to focus on the Japanese music scene, as it was for him too small and restrictive. He decided in 2012 to leave Japan to live in London to study English and try singing to a non-Japanese audience. Since 2013, he is travelling all over the world, enjoying the freedom as an independent musician.
Before he decided to leave Japan for a life full of adventure, he was active in a band called American Short Hair for 6 years. He experienced what it was like to perform abroad when this band could perform in the United States. After this, he performed again in the United States, but this time independently. It inspired him to become the musician as he is now. Currently, the singer-songwriter can proudly say that he has been able to travel to over 90 countries by singing mainly his Japanese songs.
Earlier this month, he has been touring through France and Lithuania to perform with other musicians. He has a couple of European shows planned, a show with Mambo Rumble in Budapest and a solo show at Mandril Cultural and Political Centre in Maastricht. Keep an eye on his Facebook page for more up-to-date information.
An interesting fact is in addition to playing the guitar, Hideki also plays the ocarina.
