MV Review: FOXPILL CULT – LAST WONDER
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on RedditShare on Tumblr

With the announcement of the departure of Pueru, Post New Wave band FOXPILL CULT came with a music video: LAST WONDER. The band labels this video as the ‘final chapter’ of HOMO DEMENS MAN, the title of the album that came out last October.

First, you see the leaving band member Pueru standing with his guitar while Shinpei Mörishige is filming him. They stand on some rocks while being surrounded by water. The video has been filmed at several locations, including in a flowery setting, nightly Tokyo, backstage and on stage during live shows. When support drummer Boo(DxUxS) walks by Pueru backstage, Pueru gets highlighted by a circle text which is saying: “What’s Happening Brother. Where is FOXPILL CULT?”. Halfway through the music video, the song What’s Happening Brother will start playing. This song can be found on the album HOMO DEMENS MAN.

LAST WONDER starts quietly, has a short techno intermezzo, before it goes further with what the band is doing with an extraordinary FOXPILL CULT vibe supported with live footage of their different live shows. When What’s Happening Brother you see the artistic side of FOXPILL CULT emerges.

The music video gives the idea that Pueru is much in the picture, as well as a kind of farewell to this extravagant band member. The red thread of the music video is the friendship, sadness (goodbye) and the fun moments that cannot be forgotten. At some point, you can read the word thank you in different languages. It is a great tribute to the work of the band member Pueru who has been a very special band member of FOXPILL CULT since 2011.

Although the end of What’s Happening Brother, with the opera voices in combination with the melancholic music and voice of Takaaki, can be seen as a sort of goodbye from the band, the band tends to prove the opposite by showing a simple sentence: We will never die.

Rating: 80/100
