It seems that the band BabooBee, consisting of Mio Masui (ex-PASSPO☆) on bass, Michiko (ex-mimic.) on guitar and Mirai on drums, has managed to attract attention in Europe and especially in The Netherlands. The three-piece band has managed to reach the iTunes charts in the Netherlands.

After the first single from a series of three monthly releases, the Christmas single マリア (Maria), peaked at #6 in the Dutch iTunes chart for Japanese pop at the end of 2020, the Japanese pop-rock formation BabooBee managed to reach the #1 position on January 20 with their most recent digital single ひかるひかり (HikariHikaru). This is, of course, great news for the band members and it inspired them to publish a video on Twitter celebrating the unexpected milestone with a great deal of amazement. In addition, the band also placed a thank you note – without “slechte woorden” (bad words) – in Dutch.

Aangenaam kennis te maken
Wij zijn Baboo Bee.
Het spijt me voor mijn slechte woorden.
Nummer 1 in JPOP-ranglijst
Dank je.
Ik kijk er naar uit om met jou te werken!
Dank je!#BabooBee#バブビのひかるひかり#オランダ語

— BabooBee(バブービー) (@baboo_bee) January 20, 2021

The message in Dutch translates to: “Pleased to meet you. We are BabooBee. I am sorry for my bad words. Number 1 in JPOP ranking. Thank you very much. I am looking forward to working with you! Thank you!”

Has this is all to do with a mention of one of their music videos in our article series where we put the spotlight on 7 new music video’s each week? The idea is nice, however, it seems unlikely. But it is rather interesting to see this all happening.

BabooBee’s music can also be found on Spotify and other major streaming services, including the new singles and their debut album バブビベBorn!! (BabubibeBorn!!). BabooBee have been building their career since 2018 and it seems that becoming a high entry in the Dutch iTunes list is just the beginning. The band is centred on the vocalist and bassist of the group, Mio Masui, who decided to start her own band after the dissolution of her previous band PASSPO☆ in 2018. The music is produced by the members of BabooBee themselves.

The third single in the series will be released later this month. Will the band be able to reach the number 1 position again?
