Due to the ongoing situation around COVID-19 and the nationwide ban on large events in Germany, until at least the end of October, the convention MAG in Erfurt will not be able to take place in its originally planned form this year. The organisation instead announced an alternative event that will take place online.
On the website of MAG the organisation stated: “COVID-19 doest not change the fact that we want to celebrate games, cosplay, anime, manga and Asian pop culture again during three days this year: that is why MAG 2020 will take place completely digitally from 2nd of October to the 4th as an interactive multiplayer event where you can develop creatively. This will make you a direct part of MAG, which has always been a community event by fans for fans, and immerses you even more deeply in the world of games, cosplay, anime, manga and Asian pop culture.”
The organisation is currently working on a programme where the latest games, influences and exclusive premiers will be included, but also workshops, panels and Q&A’s. They are also working on having a part of the stage programme and other highlights to take place directly in Erfurt. You can also expect virtual exhibition stands where exhibitors present their latest products to sell.
Since the convention already started selling tickets for visitors, they are looking into a solution. Visitors who purchased them, can get their money back or can use the tickets for MAG 2021. More information can be found (in German) on the website of MAG.
All changes of Japan-related events and events where Japanese musicians are planned to perform are compiled in a list that you can find here. This list will be regularly updated.
