LOUD WOMEN team up with Too Hot to Be Cool for special one-day festival in Japan

UK-based music organisation LOUD WOMEN will go to Japan to host their LOUD WOMEN Fest in Tokyo. They will be teaming up with Too Hot to Be Cool, the rock-for-climate event series in Tokyo, which will, at the same time, be the tenth edition of their event. The one-night festival will take place on Saturday 14 November at Shinjuku MARZ.

The event features 9 bands from international bands, from Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and the United States; all bands in which women, trans and non-binary people play a central role, from death-punk disco to garage punk to queer feminist punk. The Japanese acts that will perform at LOUD WOMEN Fest in Tokyo are Mikabomb, The Jungles!!!, Vampire Bats, and Akabane Vulgars on Strong Bypass.

Since the start of the event series Too Hot to Be Cool in 2024, they have organised 9 editions. With these events, they have donated around 11000 euros to youth-led climate NPOs across Southeast Asia. This will be the first time LOUD WOMEN, an international feminist music community founded in London in 2015, co-organises an event in Asia. They have been a platform for underrepresented artists while connecting local and international scenes, organising events in Europe, Australia, and the US.

Stéfan Le Dû, founder and organiser of Too Hot to Be Cool, shared about the collaboration: “We’re thrilled to partner with LOUD WOMEN for their first event in Japan. Diversity and climate justice go hand in hand. Through this collaboration, we get to support both causes at once, while giving our Tokyo community the biggest event we’ve organised to date, with nine bands from Japan and around the world.”

LOUD WOMEN founder Cassie Fox added: “Launching LOUD WOMEN Fest in Japan is something we are incredibly excited about. This is about creating new space, new connections and new opportunities for artists who are too often marginalised. Working with Too Hot to Be Cool, and raising money for a climate change NPO, makes this a truly meaningful first step for LOUD WOMEN in Japan.”

For every edition of Too Hot to Be Cool, 100 per cent of the proceeds from ticket sales are donated to a climate cause. It will be no different in their collaboration with LOUD WOMEN. This time the proceeds will go to WildAct Vietnam, a women-led nature conservation NGO based in Hanoi, committed to protecting wildlife and ecosystems throughout Vietnam and running a special programme to support women in the nature conservation sector.

This year’s line-up was put together by sifting through hundreds of applications, resulting in the selection of nine punk and alternative rock bands, led by women and non-binary individuals, from all over the world: 18Fevers (South Korea), Akabane Vulgars on Strong Bypass (Japan), The Daddy Sisters (USA), The Jungles!!! (Japan), Mika Bomb (UK), Molotov Princess (Japan), Siam Jem (US), Sister Ghost (Ireland) and Vampire Bats (Japan). Mikabomb, 18Fevers and The Jungles!!! performed at various UK venues last summer, including the Rebellion Festival in Blackpool.
