SAND LAND: THE SERIES key visualSand Land: The Series

Type: ONA
Studio: Sunrise, Kamikaze Douga, Studio Anima
Genres: Action, Adventure, Fantasy, Supernatural
Based on Sand Land manga by Akira Toriyama.

Starts airing: 20th of March 2024
Number of Episodes: 13

Earth is left a barren wasteland in the aftermath of war, a greedy king controls the supply of water. Sheriff Rao is searching for the long lost lake and turns to the king of demons to assist him in finding it. Instead, the Sheriff gets the king’s son Beelzebub and his assistant Thief. This rag tag trio set off across the desert, facing off against bandits, dragons and the greedy king’s army itself.

Recommended by AlexD:
As someone who grew up as a Dragon Ball fan, I’m always interested in Akira Toriyama’s other works. The Sand Land film released in Japan last year never got a Western release but having it as a series with some extra content is even better. Particularly with the game on the way around the same time, feels like a great time to check it out.

Hananoi-kun to Koi no Yamai (花野井くんと恋の病) key visualHananoi-kun to Koi no Yamai (花野井くんと恋の病)

Type: Anime
Studio: East Fish Studio
Genres: Romance
Based on the eponymous manga by Megumi Morino.

Starts airing: 4th of April 2024
Number of Episodes: Unknown

Hananoi-kun to Koi no Yamai, or A Condition Called Love as it’s also known as, is about a high school student named Hinase Hotaru, who has never fallen in love and has decided to be content without it.

While spending time at a café with her friend, she is witness to the breakup of Hananoi, who she later finds sitting in the snow by himself. She offers him shelter under her umbrella, as a kind gesture. Hinase never expected him to turn up in her classroom the next day, asking her out. She rejects him, but he sticks around and tries to win her over.

Soon Hinase finds herself feeling emotions she’d never felt before. She agrees to date him, hoping these feelings will turn into love.

Recommended by Yuki:
I think this story has all the ingredients to turn into a sweet and adorable romance anime. The style itself seems to suit this kind of cute storyline and I think it’ll be a nice easy series to watch, without too much drama.

Yoru no Kurage wa Oyogenai (夜のクラゲは泳げない) key visualYoru no Kurage wa Oyogenai (夜のクラゲは泳げない)

Type: Anime
Studio: Doga Kobo
Genres: Drama

Starts airing: 7th of April 2024
Number of Episodes: Unknown

Join Yoru Mitsuki on her adventure to find her identity through the neon-lit streets of Shibuya. She meets fellow creatives Nonoka Tachibana, an ex-idol with a return dream, Nox Ryūgasaki, a self-proclaimed VTuber champ, and Kimura-chan, mysterious composer. JELEE represents a group of under-the-radar creatives who are set to shake up the Shibuya scene. It’s a rollercoaster of friendship, talent, and a dash of intrigue, with each turn leading to unexpected inspiration!

Recommended by Natsu:
Oshi No Ko was the driving force behind this studio’s success the previous year. I notice that this is an original work with a small fan base, but I see a lot of potential in the grouping of creative girls who aspire to achieve greater goals as a team. It’s truly relatable to me.

Jiisan Baasan Wakagaeru (じいさんばあさん若返る) key visualJiisan Baasan Wakagaeru (じいさんばあさん若返る)

Type: Anime
Studio: Gekkou
Genres: Comedy, Romance, Supernatural
Based on the eponymous manga by Kagiri Araido.

Starts airing: 7th of April 2024
Number of Episodes: Unknown

Grandparents Ine and Shouzou have loved each other for many years, they share a deep bond forged throughout their life together. One morning they awake to find that something strange has happened… they are young once more! Follow the lives of this couple as they enjoy their newfound youth together.

Recommended by PHX:
As romantic comedies go, and there are usually several each season, the plot for this is certainly not the usual. Potentially a lot of fun to be had as they enjoy life as younger people once again, what would you do if you could live life again… There have been a lot of decent romantic comedies over the last couple of years, but the unique plot of this one makes it one to check out.

Tensei Kizoku, Kantei Skill de Nariagaru (転生貴族、鑑定スキルで成り上がる) key visualTensei Kizoku, Kantei Skill de Nariagaru (転生貴族、鑑定スキルで成り上がる)

Type: Anime
Studio: studio MOTHER
Genres: Adventure, Fantasy
Based on the manga Tensei Kizoku, Kantei Skill de Nariagaru: Jakushou Ryouchi wo Uketsuida node, Yuushuu na Jinzai wo Fuyashiteitara, Saikyou Ryouchi ni Natteta by JIMMY & Miraijin A.

Starts airing: 7th of April 2024
Number of Episodes: Unknown

Like many other Isekai our main character is originally from Earth and gets reincarnated into a fantasy world. Instead of a powerful ability that could be used in combat he gains the ability to analyse the inherent abilities of the populace in the area his family rules over. This causes him to find different individuals like the warrior Ritsu, the wizard Charlotte and the strategist Russel. When the political situation of their domain starts to become more tumultuous this ability starts to become more and more important so that Ars can safeguard his people during these wartorn times.

Recommended by Lecros:
Isekai have been a very popular genre as of late as it’s easy to bring the viewers up to speed with a new environment and writing a story about a new ability. This may make some shows feel similar, however Ars’ story is inherently different in my opinion as managing a group of people and later on the politics between different regions have a high importance. This story also helps evening out the odds as his overpowered ability depends on others and other countries may also have highly talented individuals. This helps even out the power levels in the story a bit and helps immerse us in the story. I’ve been a fan of the manga for a while and seeing bits of Ritsu, Charlotte and Russel again in the trailer makes me excited to experience the story in animation.

Tadaima, Okaeri (ただいま、おかえり) key visualTadaima, Okaeri (ただいま、おかえり)

Type: Anime
Studio: Studio DEEN
Genres: Boys Love, Slice of Life
Based on the eponymous manga by Ichi Ichikawa.

Starts airing: 9th of April 2024
Number of Episodes: Unknown

Masaki and Hiromu are two doting parents who love their son, Hikari, and moved to an area better suited for raising children when he was born. His two fathers struggled to build their life together, since their families disapproved of Masaki, an omega, being with Hiromu, an alpha.

Now that Hikari is nearing his second birthday, his dads have created their own community around them, with Yuuki, the beta college student living next door, and Matsuo, a single dad. But soon people that had cut ties with Masaki and Hiromu start returning, the two dads are unsure of the intentions of the people from their past.

Recommended by Yuki:
Although I personally dislike the alpha, beta, omega theme in this story, I hope the loving and heart-warming family moments make up for it. I think this series could be full of fun and sweet moments, both between the two dads and between the dads and their son. If you like BL anime, you might want to try this one out as well.

Kuroshitsuji: Kishuku Gakkou-hen (黒執事 寄宿学校編) key visualKuroshitsuji: Kishuku Gakkou-hen (黒執事 寄宿学校編)

Type: Anime
Studio: CloverWorks
Genres: Action, Fantasy, Mystery
Based on the manga Kuroshitsuji by Yana Toboso.

Starts airing: 13th of April 2024
Number of Episodes: Unknown

Leaving behind the glamour of high society, Ciel dives into the world of academia, only to discover that darkness lurks beneath the surface. As mysterious disappearances grip the school, including a royal relative, Ciel must unravel secrets and face sinister forces to uncover the truth. Get ready for a thrilling journey through deception, power struggles, and the supernatural as Ciel navigates the treacherous world of Weston College.

Recommended by Natsu:
After three seasons of Black Butler produced by A-1 Pictures, the baton was passed to CloverWorks. I’m curious to see what this fresh point of view will bring to the table, or school desk. Personally, I’m thrilled to see it’s back up and running.

Bartender: Kami no Glass (バーテンダー 神のグラス) key visualBartender: Kami no Glass (バーテンダー 神のグラス)

Type: Anime
Studio: Liber
Genres: Drama, Gourmet
Based on the manga Bartender by Kenji Nagatomo & Araki Jou.

Starts airing: April 2024
Number of Episodes: Unknown

Ryuu Sasakura is the owner of a hidden bar in the back streets of the Ginza District. Eden Hall is the name of the bar and the bartender is famous for mixing the most incredible drinks anyone has ever tasted. The customers don’t find Eden Hall, the bar finds you. Ryuu always knows the ideal cocktail to help and console each distraught soul.

Recommended by Hageshi:
This series seems to be a remake of the same-named anime from 2006 which seemed to be quite popular. It seems to be a chill series, making it, in my opinion, nice to watch and something calm to have on the side during the busy daily life hectic.

Sasayaku you ni koi wo utau (ささやくように恋を唄う) key visualSasayaku you ni koi wo utau (ささやくように恋を唄う)

Type: Anime
Studio: Yokohama Animation Lab & Cloud Hearts
Genres: Girls Love
Based on the eponymous manga by Eku Takeshima.

Starts airing:  April 2024
Number of Episodes: Unknown

High school can be a confusing time and unrequited love is not uncommon. Yori is somewhat clueless when it comes to affairs of the heart so when a junior confesses love to her, she doesn’t know what to do. Eventually she decides to return the feelings of her junior, only to discover it was a love of her music and not of her that was being confessed. Undeterred, and teased by those around her, Yori decides to make her junior Himari fall in love with her.

Recommended by PHX:
A simple misunderstanding that potentially leads to something much bigger. An interesting spin on the high school romance anime, there is potential for a good mix of comedy and heart touching moments. If done well, they could take you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions.

Vampire Dormitory (ヴァンパイア男子寮) key visualVampire Dormitory (ヴァンパイア男子寮)

Type: Anime
Studio: Studio Blanc.
Genres: Romance, Supernatural
Based on the eponymous manga by Ema Tooyama.

Starts airing: April 2024
Number of Episodes: Unknown

After losing his job, due to the women who swarm the restaurant he works at on a daily basis just to see him, Mito finds himself unemployed and homeless. He then visits a café and cuts his hand on broken glass. A stranger named Ruka Saotome licks away Mito’s blood, instead of tending to his wounds, and tells him his blood tastes disgusting.

Later that same night they have another encounter, when Mito slips off the roof of a building and Ruka catches him. Ruka reveals that he is a vampire and in search of a pretty male thrall. He explains that male blood tastes disgusting and the blood of someone who is unloved tastes even worse, but Ruka can’t drink the blood of girls. He offers Mito a place to stay, in the Hijirigaoka Boys’ Academy dormitory, as long as he can drink his blood.

Mito accepts, but there’s one problem: Mito is actually a girl.

Recommended by Yuki:
This anime series sounds like it’d be interesting to watch. I wonder if there’ll be a lot of funny moments, or if it will be very serious, but either way the summary sounds pretty interesting. I wonder how common vampires are in this story, since it appears to be common knowledge in the dorms that Ruka is one. If you like vampires and romance anime, you should try this one out!

Which serie(s) are you going to watch?
