Kracie – Cake Monster – Simple
Price: ± €8
Extra supplies: Microwave, Water, Scissors, Freezer.
It’s a little early for Halloween, but these adorable little monsters just couldn’t wait to make their entrance! One of Kracie’s newer candy kits, this one comes with one of two possible monster moulds and one of four possible sticker sheets inside. The stickers allow you to create your own adorable or horrible little monster cakes, which you can also decorate with some custard. Inside the package you’ll find a mould, a sticker sheet, three cake powders, custard powder and a spoon.
Flavour: ♥
According to the packaging, each of the colours of cake is supposed to correspond with a certain flavour. The green one did have a faint melon flavour to it, as it was supposed to have. The orange cake monster didn’t have a very specific flavour to it, just a sweet one. The flavour is described as ‘vanilla’, which is often a more subtle sweet flavour, rather than one that’s very clear. Pink was supposed to be strawberry and I did detect a hint of (artificial) strawberry flavour, but it wasn’t a very strong flavour.
The custard was sweet and did have custardy flavour to it, it was a bit thick to pipe neatly though. Even spreading it with a toothpick wasn’t very easy, but flavourwise there’s no complaints here. The stickers don’t have a distinct flavour to them, but they are pretty sticky.
The cakes were a little dry, but that’s usually the case with a lot of microwaved cakes you can make using a candy kit. Adding the custard to the cakes did make them more enjoyable.
Time needed: ⧗
This kit doesn’t take up much time. Putting the different elements together didn’t take much time either, but you can take as little or as much time as you’d like to decorate.
Difficulty level: ★
This is a pretty easy candy kit to make, as long as you follow the instructions. Do watch out when you’ve placed the stickers, if you touch them again they might stick to your fingers and you don’t be able to put them back on the cakes. Using a toothpick might make spreading the custard a little easier as well.
Similarity: 📷📷📷
As you can see on the pictures below, the final product looks practically the same as the picture on the packaging. Although the structure of the cake and the stickers is slightly different, but that’s to be expected when seeing the real product next to a ‘perfect’ image of them.
Want to enjoy this kit again?
Clean the mould and container with warm water, after using it, and let it air dry.
Fill the mould with melted chocolate or fondant and use those to create monster shapes. You could decorate with more chocolate or whipped cream for instance. Using edible marker you could create eyes, mouths, horns and anything else you want to draw on.
This is not a sponsored review and because of this I won’t mention where I bought this set, if you do an online search using the name of this kit you’ll be able to find this one in several webshops.
