Bandcamp Friday has returned after a small break! On the first of August, Bandcamp shared a message that the next Bandcamp Friday will take place on the 6th of August. Furthermore, they added that they will continue to organise this initiative on the first Friday of every month thereafter for the rest of 2021. This is good news for musicians who sell their music and merchandise on this platform.
In March 2020, Bandcamp started their Bandcamp Fridays where they help artists impacted by the pandemic by waiving the revenue shares to support the musicians and labels. After extending it through the summer and later on also the rest of the year, many people were looking out for the first Friday of the month to support the musicians. This continued until the first five months of 2021. Then things went quiet, until now!
According to Bandcamp, almost 800,000 music fans helped out by participating during Bandcamp Fridays in 2020 and this has continued in the first months in 2021 making the total of money paid to artists and labels $56 million dollars (more than 47 million euros). On Bandcamp Fridays, an average of 93% of your money reaches the artist or label (after payment processor fees). On other days, an average of 82% reaches the artist or label.
