On the opening day of the Tokyo Olympics, singer-songwriter, poetry-rapper and composer Haru Nemuri released her newest music video, a lyric video, for the latest single Old Fashioned. With this song, the musician shares an angry warning against the current state of thoughtlessness. Filled with an aggressive punkish sound and trendy beats, Haru Nemuri is showing a glimpse of experimentation.
In the first shot of the music video, an uninterested – almost lifeless – Haru Nemuri can be seen conducting the start of the song which soon gets more lively. Filled with cries like “There’s nothing irrelevant. Asshole”, “Sing now souls” and “I’ll eat it all up” (followed by a doughnut), it is clear that the ironic lyrics are filled with anger and resignation towards society. It is more directer than can be heard in Nemuri’s past songs. Even though it is a lyric video, the visual aspect greatly enhances the song.
Old Fashioned is mastered by Chris Gehringer of Sterling Sound, which is a special thing for the musician as he is seen as a top engineer who has worked on world-famous albums, such as Rihanna’s Loud, Lady Gaga’s Born This Way, and Drake’s Take Care.
Haru Nemuri is currently working on the promotion of her upcoming North America tour, that after postponing, will finally take place in the autumn of 2021. The show in New York, which is also the first show of the tour, is sold out. But first, the musician will do another solo show on livestream, planned for Tuesday 31 August. The show can be watched for free on the YouTube channel of Haru Nemuri, but donations are encouraged. The show will start at 19.00 Japanese time, which means 12.00 PM in the Netherlands and 11.00 AM in the United Kingdom.
