The release of a new single and music video by singer-songwriter, poetry-rapper and composer Haru Nemuri marks the beginning of the promotion of her new album.

bang, that’s the title Haru Nemuri’s latest track and those who have been following the musician for a while already knew about the arrival of this release. Officially, the single was released digitally yesterday, on 15th of January. The music video that accompanies this track has just been released. The focus of this video is on the United States, the country where Haru Nemuri originally planned to film her video for this particular track. This was also the country where she was actually going to tour in 2020, for the first time, including a performance at SXSW. That has all been postponed and if all goes well, it should actually happen this year, 2021.

The music video for bang was partly shot in Tokyo and partly in Los Angeles. In this American city, Haru Nemuri embodies the depressive, senseless impulse with her whole body and performs in the city through projections. The video in Los Angeles was filmed on the most dangerous street in the United States, Skid Row, with a focus on downtown and Hollywood.

The message Haru Nemuri shares with this song does show the choice of why this is set in the United States. It is actually an essay on how the country, as well as the world, has become divided in recent years, shares the frustration, but also the hope she finds in ‘praying’. Not something to be copied and pasted on this page, you can read entire message on her website.

With bang, Haru Nemuri again goes full into the feelings and her powerful words. Shooting away the rotten feeling so that it is possible to live, dance, and sing. “I wanted to feel the sparkle. Shoot it up now. Heart beat.” The recognisability is very high, especially when we look back at the past year. And then it immediately kicks in with the catchy chorus where the word ‘bang’ is repeated. The feeling becomes overwhelming when, in the last chorus, a diverse group of people want to shoot the unpleasant feeling away with their imaginary gun. It all feels so well put together that it gives goosebumps.

The album we are waiting for is already finished and what can be said about it is that it was recorded at HAPPYCAT RECORDINGS in Tokyo and produced in Los Angeles and Tokyo. The music video for bang contains English subtitles, click on CC to view it!
