The long-awaited single by Esprit D’Air is finally out and accompanied by a very intriguing music video. After a successful crowdfunding, the melodic rock and metal band led by vocalist and guitarist Kai could announce the official release of the single Leviathan through their livestream concert where they celebrated the 10-year anniversary of the band project.
Leviathan is a song about change, melancholy, and hope in a world devastated by a global pandemic. About the release, vocalist and producer Kai says: “We interpreted “Leviathan” as a huge power or impact beyond human power or knowledge. When we wrote this, we were thinking about how significantly our world has changed with the pandemic and how we can think positively and have hopes in tough times. Through our composition and songwriting, we tried to express lights of despair, human weakness and stupidity, and human wisdom to build a new world.”
The music video is directed by award-winning director Andy M (Before Dawn Productions), the inspiration for the video can be clearly found back in Neon Genesis Evangelion, Ghost in the Shell, Blade Runner 2049 and even Alita: Battle Angel. A sci-fi retelling of a classic Greek myth, encapsulated in Japanese pop culture and expressed through dance, mixed with the focus on the vocalist Kai who is singing his heart out and a glimpse of the captivating 10th-anniversary performance in October. It shows the undeniable fact that Kai wants to show the viewer and listener that his solo project is growing to newer heights. Leviathan is a sign of a step in a new direction, after celebrating the 10 years Esprit D’Air that was filled full of adventures and challenges.
Watching the top-notch music video, it is like you are watching a film, you get drawn into the storyline from the start. Knowing that this is specially made for the music video gives you hunger for more. Especially with an ending like that. And even though it may be at odds with what Esprit D’Air is trying to convey in the music, the video can be interpreted differently by everyone. The expectations for the album Oceans has only gotten bigger thanks to the release of the music video of Leviathan.
In addition to watching the music video, it is possible to listen to the music digitally through streaming platforms, such as Apple Music, Spotify & Deezer. The digital single includes the remixes by world-famous duo HEAVYGRINDER, and electronic producer Shirobon.
