Momo Otani and Christophe Pannekoucke, the musicians behind MOMOCURLY, are currently in Tokyo to work on new music and doing performances here and there. Due to COVID-19, they haven’t been able to perform as much as planned, so they are using their time to focus on a new album.
The first album of the indie-pop band, titled Cosmic Lips, released in March of this year, attracted much attention around the world with their combination of pop and jazz, but also the various elements of Japanese and European sounds that they tried to mix in their songs.
In Tokyo, they have been performing as a duo but also with support musicians, to give the full band experience for the live shows. The duo has been sharing some live videos on their social media to give an idea of how the performances are of MOMOCURLY, since it is impossible to travel to Japan at this very moment to see them live. One of the most recent live videos contains a performance at Moon Romantic (月見ル君想フ) in Tokyo, filmed on the 15th of October. The track that is performed is named End of the World, a fitting song that is very much in harmony with the atmosphere and decor of the stage.
The original music video of the song was shared in February, filmed in the town Elche, in the South East of Spain, approximately 20 kilometres from Alicante, where they are standing along the Rio Vinalopó. Spain was also the country where they record their first studio album.
The band is very active on Instagram, with regular livestreams, videos and photos from the duo. In the meantime, if you haven’t purchased it yet, the first album is out on CD and cassette tape, but also available digitally. At this very moment, they have a break from performances to work hard in the studio on the second album.
