Japan’s largest publisher Kodansha will release a new high-art photography book, XY, featuring X JAPAN drummer and the person behind Yoshikimono, YOSHIKI, on his birthday on Friday, 20th of November, 2020.
YOSHIKI shared a few thoughts about the photography book and teases about something that is related to the music department. “It may be weird for me to say this myself, but I still look good, and I think I can still keep going for a while,” YOSHIKI laughed. “But behind the scenes, I put in a lot of blood, sweat, and tears in – hopefully, this will be the trigger to start releasing some music.”
The full-length XY book, a B4 hardcover book consisting of 96 pages, will be accompanied by a 30-minute DVD that offers some behind the scenes footage and an interview with YOSHIKI. Since the musician was the first Japanese man to appear on the cover of VOGUE JAPAN and also appeared on the cover of Numero TOKYO for the November 2020 issue, the step to create a photography book with a focus on fashion was not big. The photobook will consist of photos where YOSHIKI wears cutting-edge fashion, captured by award-winning photographer Melanie Pullen. A promotional video where you can see some footage of the project can be seen below.
Where to get this photography book or e-book? There are a couple of shops that currently accept pre-orders – but they are mostly Japanese shops – like Amazon, Rakuten and Kodansha Book Club.
