“There will be no Roskilde Festival this Summer.” This is how the broken-hearted message started from the Danish festival that would take place at the end of June and the beginning of July. They explained in their announcement about the cancellation of the 2020 edition that the Danish authorities have just prolonged the ban against larger gatherings until 31 August 2020 due to the current situation of the COVID-19 pandemic. This means that Roskilde Festival can’t go through.
The big festival, one of the largest music festivals in Europe, supposed to have its 50th edition this year and had many musicians confirmed for the 8 days that it would take place. Among them were the Japanese groups OOIOO and CHAI. OOIOO had to postpone their April tour through Europe because of the same reasons. They are planning to return later this year.
The 50th edition will now be moved to next year, 2021. Those who have purchased their tickets for the 2020 edition will be able to transfer it to Roskilde Festival 2021, but you can also reimburse them. More information about this will be announced soon when the organisation have been able to get a few things in order.
Tthe festival stated that they are currently in a difficult position since they don’t have big savings as they donate their profits every year to the good cause in supporting children’s and young people’s opportunities. But this situation has far more consequences from the artists, suppliers, to the people who always help out during the festival. The organisation of Roskilde Festival ask therefor the fans who already purchased a ticket to say yes to the festival in 2021 to make it easier for the non-profit organisation to secure the foundation of the festival. The dates of Roskilde Festival 2021 are not known yet and will be announced very soon by the organisation, but you can expect it to take place in the Summer period.
