Jazzy and refreshing tones come directly after the first notes of the song Candy can be heard, one of the songs on the upcoming first album of the pop duo MOMOCURLY.
The soft and airy voice of Momo Otani, makes one think that we are listening to dreamy jazz that almost takes the step to dream pop. Spring seems to have already begun according to MOMOCURLY. The music video of the song Candy was recently shared by the band.
The video shows how the two musicians make their music in a living room. The focus in the video is on the vocalist and pianist, while you can see how she plays a digital piano and compact keyboard at the same time while singing fondly. After the song surrounds you with warmth and softness, very abruptly you are taken out of this dream, when Momo decides to turn off her instruments, while Christophe is still playing picking the strings.
MOMOCURLY consists of singer and pianist Momo Otani from Tokyo and guitarist Christophe Pannekoucke from Paris who have been trying to capture Japanese and European sounds in their music since 2018.
While studying in Tokyo at Senzoku College of Music, Momo met jazz pianist and teacher Yuki Arimasa, who inspired her to develop and perfect her art as a jazz pianist. She has since been active in the jazz scene in Tokyo, performing with local and international musicians. Christophe Pannekoucke is a self-taught aficionado of guitar, but continued this through a study at the French Conservatorium where he worked with Pierre Drevet and is now a well-known jazz guitarist. Solo, Christophe Pannekoucke was often seen on stage at various jazz festivals in France, together the two have performed as MOMOCURLY in various countries all over the world.
Candy is one of the 10 new tracks on the upcoming album of MOMOCURLY, titled Cosmic Lips. The album, recorded in Alicante in the Summer of 2019, will be released on 1st of March, 2020.Candy is a nice appetiser of what to expect from the musical group, but also a good introduction to MOMOCURLY if you’re not familiar with it yet.
