Synthese revealed that the second edition of the event will take place on Friday 13 March. During this event, French composer Olivier Messiaen will be put in a new light. The evening will be filled with several international musicians who will bring their music in their own way. One of the musicians will be the Japanese vocalist Hatis Noit.
Synthese is a quest for the amalgamation of three at first sight very different genres; modern classical, electronics and pop. At unconventional locations in Utrecht, Synthese will take the visitor on an inspiring adventure. The evening will be opened by saxophonist Laura Agnusdei, followed by a performance of Messiaen’s organ piece L’Ascension, performed by twenty-year-old organist Francesca Ajossa, the evening will be concluded by Japanese vocalist Hatis Noit.
Last year, she performed at Le Guess Who? in Utrecht and now she will return to Utrecht to join the second edition of Synthese at the Antoniuskerk (Stadsklooster). Just last week, she was touring around Europe to perform alongside other artists from the label Erased Tapes Records. In 2018, she released her EP Illogical Dance through this label for the world. Previously it was only available in Japan. For this release, she worked together with Björk-collaborators Matmos and combines western classical, Japanese folk and nature’s own ambience into four tracks.
Hatis Noit is a vocal performer from distant Shiretoko in Hokkaido who now resides in London. The name Hatis Noit itself is taken from Japanese folklore, meaning the stem of the lotus flower. The musician is self-taught, inspired by Gagaku (Japanese classical music) to Bulgarian and Gregorian chanting, to avant-garde and pop.
