Last few weeks, Otoboke Beaver (おとぼけビ~バ~) announced a couple of shows in The Netherlands, with the message that there will be more shows. After announcing a few shows in France and the United Kingdom, it is clear: Otoboke Beaver will finally tour Europe for the first time.

Earlier it was announced that Otoboke Beaver will celebrate Valentine’s Day in The Netherlands with Drinking Boys and Girls Choir in Nijmegen and will perform at Vera in Groningen and Complexity Fest in Haarlem. In total, 10 shows have been announced, but there are more coming up. Tickets for the shows that have been announced, except for the festivals, will go on sale on Friday 29 November.

The tour is titled Yametatta, which can mean retired. In a tweet from Otoboke Beaver, the word work was put in brackets. We’ll leave it to the imagination of the readers.

The name Otoboke Beaver is taken from a local love hotel and got formed in the Summer of 2009. The band calls itself as the Japanese ‘knock out of pound cake’ band and sings only in Kyoto street language. They have been performing quite a lot in the United Kingdom during the Golden Week in Japan, that was the only period of time that they can take time off from their work. Earlier this year, the band released the album ITEKOMA HITS, a compilation album with a few new tracks. This year they were able to introduce themselves at festivals like SXSW and Pinkpop.

For most of the tour dates, the Korean band Drinking Boys and Girls Choir will join the four ladies of Otoboke Beaver. The band Drinking Boys And Girls Choir is not an unknown name as they have performed before with Otoboke Beaver in 2018, during the United Kingdom tour. They come from Daegu in South Korea and that city was famous for hardcore punk during the boom of indie music in Korea in the late 1990s and early 2000s, but it is hard to find the legend since the scene has moved to Seoul. The members of the Drinking Boys and Girls Choir were inspired at the time but were not actually witnessed close, making it similar and irrelevant to any punk band.
