After an activity of almost 5 years, the band Soldier who fights against Pain (SWFAP) said quits and will perform once more time in a few days at Shibuya THE GAME. Before it will all end, the metal band released a last music video, titled PROMISE.
The video starts off with a warning ending up with a poem: “Listen to my voice, open your eyes. I sing for myself, let me see your hands. I’m singing right here, please don’t forget me”. This start of the video is something that has been done before and is not unique to this video only, they used this text more often in their promotion. Although this start sets the atmosphere, it gives off a threatening vibe. The cinematic hardcore band shows live footage of the band performing, while you hear the song playing. The director of the video is Y.P.K, who have worked with this band before.
While the guitar, bass and drums are blasting through the speakers, you hear Fumiya grunting and singing that causes a sort of chaos. There is almost no time to stand still. The band continues with the aggressive sound while the singer is screaming about sorrow, suffering and fighting against pain, the main themes of the band. As the song progresses, it feels increasingly heavy.
For those who missed the announcement of the disbanding, watching the song title and the description below the video (LAST SONG) is this video bittersweet. But I keep remembering the thing one musician once told me: Even though the band will disappear, the music will be forever. This song is a good closure for the works the band put out. Unfortunately and also a bit ironic, if you are looking for other music videos, you have to make do with the (live) videos that others have uploaded because the band deleted them themselves. The same is for what they put online on iTunes in the past.
