I’ve come across these treats several times in webshops and got curious as to how they’d taste. Given the fact that I’ve made Melon Pan before I was wondering whether the cookies only resemble them in shape or if their flavour was anything like the real thing. These cookies are made by Kabaya and the package contains the original ones and a chocolate cream variety.
Kabaya – Melon Pan Cookies

Right off the bat I noticed that the original one, the lighter of the two, was rounder on top than the chocolate cream version was. This probably has something to do with the chocolate filling in the middle. It was also a darker shade of brown than you’d expect.
The original melon pan had a melon flavour to it, which is a popular addition to melon pan at the moment. The chocolate cookie had a cocoa taste to it and a chocolate flavoured centre.
Both had a slightly crunchy outer layer, but not as crunchy as I had expected it to be. Since melon pan are made with an outer layer of crunchy cookie and fluffy bread inside, I expected similar textures from these cookies. There was a layer of sugar on top, just like melon pan have. The cookie itself was crumbly, the inside tasted a bit old and moist.
I can’t say I loved these cookies, they were okay but they weren’t amazingly flavourful. If I’d have to pick a favourite it’d definitely be the chocolate cream cookie.
