On 2 and 3 February, Dutch Design and Cool Japan will go hand in hand during the Cool Japan Design Weekend at Tropenmuseum. At the moment it is possible to visit the exhibition Cool Japan, which was opened in September 2018 in renewed form after the great success of the same exhibition at Museum Volkenkunde.
Designers from Japan and the Netherlands are a golden combination. Over and over again there is much admiration for each other’s work. What is the fascination of Dutch designers for Japanese design and what experiences have they gained in Japan? Tropenmuseum, together with Mono Japan, pulls everything out for a weekend full of design. Join the talks and guided tours or even roll up your sleeves.
Customize your special unisex Cool Japan Suit with Bonne Reijn and Sebastian Masuda. Or come and cut in kimonos with fashion designer Lisa Konno. But you can also join the many sessions with designers who get their inspiration from Japan and the Netherlands. The entire program can be found on the website of the Tropenmuseum (in Dutch).
The Cool Japan exhibition has attracted more than 79,000 visitors since its opening in late September, making it the most visited exhibition in the Tropenmuseum in the first three months of its start. Cool Japan broke the record of the exhibition The Sixties from 2015, which attracted some 77,500 visitors in the first three months. The exhibition Cool Japan can still be seen until 1 September 2019. In total, the Tropenmuseum welcomes 210,000 visitors in 2018.
