rock band and project of yuichi abe, April in 85, released a new single with a double A side: BREAKING DAWN/CALL ME. The songs has been spread in March, but gotten a new flavour.
April in 85 consists of singer and guitarist yuichi abe (ex-the butterfly nine cord) and get supported by the following guest musicians: bass player ayumi shiraishi (CUICUI/BAKAYARO NO HI), guitarist daisuke shimizu and drummer hiroyuki adati (HISTGRAM). The band made its debut on October 12th, 2016 with a liveshow and one month later the first single got released. Eventually April in 85 released a number of singles, including the newest single. Is it time for an album? That is what the musician thought, because on April 20, 2018 the first album will be released: April in 85.
The two tracks fit together based on the calm atmosphere that comes forward in both of them, but aren’t copies of each other in the slightest. BREAKING DAWN is a ballad and CALL ME is a sweet and cheerful electropop song.
Maybe the songs are a bit too sweet and juicy, but that depends on the tastes of the listener. The songs dance along on the waves, like there isn’t a spike waiting in the tracks. It gives a bit of an unfinished feeling, like something is missing. Both tracks are still pleasant on the hearing. It shows there is potential.
yuichi doesn’t let go of the autotune, which is a shame. He hides his real singing voice with this. It does fit in the ’80’s vibe he’s trying to accomplish with his band and isn’t misplaced in the slightest. Still I don’t think it’s needed for him to use an autotune, his real voice is just fine as it is.
Meanwhile, April in 85 does not sit still. After releasing the single and announcing an album, it was also announced that a DVD is on the schedule. The DVD is a live DVD of a live show recorded by FILMZERO (sentaro) and will be released on December 24th.
