A short while ago it was announced that cosplayer Lei Sakuragi would be the special guest of the convention Formula Cosplay Europe 2nd edition. AVO is a partner of this convention and the step to interview Lei Sakuragi to promote the event that will take place on May 6th 2017 isn’t very big. Lei Sakuragi had some time to answer the questions through mail!

AVO Blog: As this is the first interview we have with you, please introduce yourself!
Lei: I’m Lei, I’ve been cosplaying for over 5 years, and I currently live in Germany.

AVO Blog: You have been cosplaying for more than five years. When did you first get in touch with cosplay and why did you start cosplaying?
Lei: I first started as I went to a convention in Hong Kong, there were many cosplayer there chilling around with friends. I wanted to be one of them and also cosplay characters I like.

AVO Blog: What was your first cosplay and which cosplay are you most proud of?
Lei: My first Cosplay was Asahina Mikuru, and I’m most proud of my Re:Zero series cosplay.

AVO Blog: Which cosplay outfit did you work the longest on it and how long did it take?
Lei: It was Mumei from Kabaneri and Sasha from Shingeki no Kyojin. I spend around two weeks working on each of their props.

AVO Blog: How many cosplay outfits have you made in total?
Lei: I never really counted. I think I made more than 50 outfits.

AVO Blog: What is the most important thing you have learned from cosplaying?
Lei: I learned how to put on makeup and make clothing and props.

AVO Blog: What advice do you want to give to people who want to start cosplaying or have just started cosplaying?
Lei: Many people started cosplay with 0 knowledge. Don’t worry if you don’t know how to put on makeup, how to make props/costume or don’t know anyone. Just keep trying and you’ll do it good, because practice really makes perfect.

AVO Blog: As you are quite busy with your cosplay and visiting different conventions, you might not have the time to read manga or follow an anime series. If you do have time, which manga are you reading and which anime serie(s) are you following?
Lei: I used to watch anime while making props and costumes, so actually the more I work on cosplay the more time I have to watch anime ;P right now I’m watching Kobayashi Dragon Maid.

AVO Blog: You are a special guest at the second edition of Formula Cosplay Europe. What do you hope to see and do at the convention, next to the fact that you will be jury during the competitions?
Lei: I hope I can get to know and meet up new people, and have a good time there with everyone.

AVO Blog: Which cosplay outfit will you wear during Formula Cosplay Europe?
Lei: I will be cosplaying Yohane from Love Live! Sunshine!!

AVO Blog: What do you want to say to the people who are coming to the second edition of Formula Cosplay Europe? Is there something you want to see or receive?
Lei: I’m looking forward to see everyone of you and I hope you’ll enjoy your weekend here and have a great time.

I want to thank Lei Sakuragi for her time to answer the questions, Formula Cosplay Europe for the chance to interview Lei and Team AVO for the support to make this interview possible! Please follow Lei Sakuragi through her Facebook page. You can meet Lei Sakuragi on May 6 2017, tickets can be bought on the website of Formula Cosplay Europe.
