Recently I purchased a few Japanese Candy kits and I will review all of these for AVO. This is not a sponsored review and because of this I won’t mention where I bought this set, if you do an online search using the name of this kit you’ll be able to find this one in several webshops.
Heart – Cute Face Gummy – Simple

* Instead of heating the mixture in the microwave I decided to heat it au bain-marie, with a heatproof glass bowl on top of a pan with a small layer of boiling water. I stirred until all of the powder was dissolved and then took the bowl off of the pan, wiped the bottom dry with a kitchen towel and poured the mixture back in the cup to be able to put it in the mould.
With this kit you create two cute gummy faces on sticks. You can decorate the faces however you’d like, with the many expressions and accessories you create with the red and brown mixture. There are two versions of this kit. It doesn’t take a lot of time to make this kit, max 10 minutes, you can put together faces for as much or little time as you’d like.
This kit is very easy to make, but fun because of the many decoration options. You can see ahead of time in what ways you can decorate the faces.
The final product looks cute, do make sure to mix everything well and check whether the powder is fully dissolved. As you can see in the picture it looks similar to the pictures on the packaging. The mould helps you get a good result. You can make multiple facial expressions and everything you place on the faces you can easily remove or move around too.
The red mixture of powder and water reminded me of Haribo Peaches candies. The taste was pretty faint and this gummy had a bit of a weird aftertaste, if you chew on it and then swallow. Later I found out that if you place the gummy on your tongue and let it dissolve in your mouth the taste is much better. I recommend this for all the parts in this set!
The brown powder mixted with water reminded me of Haribo Happy Cola candies. They also tasted like them, but again a very faint taste.
The gummy faces tasted a little like strawberry milk, after all you do prepare them with milk. Again a faint taste, but definitely not unpleasant.
Personally I preferred eating all the parts separately instead of all-in one bit.
TIPS: If you use a spoon to put the red and brown mixtures in the mould, make sure to only put a tiny little portion of it on your spoon and drip it into the mould carefully. Using a pipette might make this process easier. You can use a cocktail pick to spread it to the edges, so you don’t overfill the mould.
I had quite a lot left of the red mixture, you could also use this to fill another mould for instance. The mixture for the faces turned out to be less than I expected, make sure to divide and spread this evenly. I ended up missing a piece of the ear of one of the gummy faces.
Make sure you put the sticks in the mould correctly, with the hearts facing downwards. I accidentally put them the other side up, which isn’t a disaster, but you won’t be able to see the hearts then.
You can pick whatever kind of milk you’d like, I used lactose free milk for instance. Even water would probably work, but then the result would be less tasty.

Clean the mould with warm water, after using it, and let it air dry. Don’t use soap when cleaning this mould.
If you want to reuse the mould you can put some pudding or jelly mix in it. You could also put melted chocolate in the moulds, but make sure the melted chocolate isn’t too hot because it might melt through the mould otherwise.
