With a large music industry such as Japan has, second largest in the world, it is inevitable that music fans will be inundated with a profusion of good (and also less good) music from this country. It is impossible to keep track of this and write a review about it per video. But to avoid missing out on gems, it is time for a weekly list of new music videos from Japanese musical acts that are definitely worth watching. Don’t forget to let us know which music video published in week 30 you liked the most.
ayutthaya – BACK
Alternative rock band ayutthaya consists of vocalist and guitarist Mio Ohta and bass player Makoto Migita. The band started as a quartet in 2017, but the drummer left after the release of ayutthaya’s first EP. After that the band kept on releasing new music, such as another EP and a single, then in 2019, ayutthaya became a duo after the departure of the guitarist. The band just released their third EP, titled I know, right? accompanied by the music video for the first track of this EP, BACK, filmed in the dressing room of Shindaita FEVER. Now it is waiting for an album of this band. — Recommended by Fran
みるきーうぇい (Milkyway) – ドンガラガッシャンバーン (Dongaragasshanbaan)
MilkyWay is Kaori Ijuin’s music project she started in 2014. Mixing novels and music, there is a short story to accompany each track that mostly draws upon her negative experiences of being bullied in school. This track is the first song from the third mini-album set to be released in September. — Recommended by AlexD
bed time sheep – 証明 (Shoumei)
In August, the rock band bed time sheep will release their third single. 証明 (Shoumei) is one of the tracks on that single. The in 2018 started four-piece from Osaka had a flying start when they launched their first demo in the spring of 2018, it caught a lot of attention from new fans. They made use of that attention and build out their popularity with new releases, including a sold-out split release with piano rock band film girl, and, of course, performances. — Recommended by Fran
melco. – dreaming parade
Singer-songwriter melco. has been releasing a couple of singles, everything can be listened to on streaming services, in which dreaming parade is the latest release. Before starting her solo career, melco. was active in an all-girl band and regularly shared short stories and poems on social media. The band had broken up in 2019 and this was a start sign for the musician to focus on her career of being a singer-songwriter from the spring of 2019. — Recommended by Fran

THE MOTHER – Black Coffee
The new 4-piece band THE MOTHER shared their first song and music video to introduce themselves to the outside world, for the song titled Black Coffee. Currently the band members working hard on promoting the new band, they are encouraging people to follow them on their band account and for example on Twitter share the pinned tweet. In return, you will receive a song of the neo city pop band from Sapporo. — Recommended by Fran
Ohzora Kimishima – 火傷に雨 (yakedo ni ame)
Ohzora Kimishima calls himself a bedroom musician. Since 2014, he has been active in writing and composing his own music. Kimishima first started sharing his self-arranged songs on Soundcloud, but later they were eternalised on record starting with his first EP in 2019. Later that year, the singer-songwriter performed in ensemble format several times, including on FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL. As a guitarist, Kimishima has participated in live performances and recordings for several musicians and one of his songs has been used as a theme song for an NHK documentary. — Recommended by Fran
犬人間ニョンズ (inuningenyonzu) – 君と本屋さん (Kimi to Honya-san)
The foundation of this punk rock band was laid in the Philippines, around guitarist and singer Tokura Takurou. Meanwhile mainly active in Japan with Kyoto as a permanent home, the band has worked hard to release various releases such as a mini-album and several singles, but they were also often seen on stage. The fourth mini-album is now ready to be released and, of course, the video below is a sneak peek of what you can expect from this band. — Recommended by Fran
