Morinaga is a well-known confectionery company in Tokyo, with vocalist Ayumi Hamasaki and former competitive figure skater Mao Asada among others appearing in their commercials to advertise their products.

The present culture during Valentine’s Day in Japan was strongly influenced by the company, who started advertising in 1960 that women should give out chocolates to men on Valentine’s Day, which seemingly has been based on an unfortunate translation. Although nowadays it is also the other way around, a month later. This company is also behind the (energy/vitamin) in JELLY drinks that are most of the times presented in large capacity at convenience stores.

The Angel Pie by Morinaga was created in the late 50s of the last century by the confectionary company, which means that the sweet snack has a long history. This review will be about the mini version of the Morinaga Angel Pie.

Morinaga – Angel Pie Mini
Price: ±€4,- per 8

A chocolate outer layer covering cake layers with marshmallow in between. Both the cake layers and the marshmallow in between are fluffy and light. All the elements fit together quite well, they compliment each other.

These are a mini version of the original, but in my opinion, they’re the perfect size. This delicious treat is often available with a different flavour, like hazelnut, melon and strawberry.
