On Friday 27 March, the duo Future Sound Lovers will embark on a short tour in Germany. A total of five performances are scheduled, starting with a show in Berlin.
The duo has performed in Europe before, but at that time they were known as ICHION. A few years ago, the duo, consisting of vocalist Kyra and multi-instrumentalist Akira, decided to change their name to Future Sound Lovers to reflect the evolution of their musical style. The music of Future Sound Lovers is nowadays described as electronic shamanic music that is also hypnotic.
The band likes to experiment with electronic music, with Akira using homemade instruments and combining them with traditional folk singing and ambient sounds. Vocalist Kyra has been immersed in Ainu culture, one of Japan’s indigenous tribes, since her childhood. Her father, a historian, spent years studying the history, customs and language of the Ainu people. Kyra took up the torch and blended her love of music with this passion. Akira is a sound explorer, passionate about instruments and musical experimentation. All the instruments the band uses in their music and performances are made by Akira. For their performances, Future Sound Lovers add LED strips and lasers to the stage to enhance the visual impact of their music.
Originally launched as a solo project by Akira, it eventually became a collaborative project with the addition of Kyra. As ICHION, they produced music rooted in Ainu and Zuni traditions, combined with experimental electronic music, and described themselves as neo-spiritual. The band released their first album in 2011, their second album in 2017 and their third album in 2020, entitled Oro Mike Mike May. As Future Sound Lovers, they have released three singles, all of which can be found on Bandcamp.
