The jazzy Japanese post-rock trio from Tokyo, mouse on the keys, is no stranger to overseas concerts. In fact, they visited Europe quite often until their tour in 2017, after which they only returned for a concert in London in 2018. Luckily fans have to wait no longer as they will finally be returning to Europe in May! During their time there they will be performing at the Portals Festival in the United Kingdom, two concerts in Germany’s Bochum and Berlin, a concert in the Netherlands and last but not least 2025’s edition of Belgium’s dunk!festival.

Founded in 2006 the trio from mouse on the keys was originally known for their post-rock sound where they twist the formula by implementing keys instead of the traditional stringed instruments. Since their first release with sezession, their sound has had influences from not just post-rock but jazz, funk and electronic sounds as well to create something unique. In 2022 Takumi Shiroeda joined drummer Akira Kawasaki and fellow keys player Daisuke Niitome to create the lineup we know today. Together they have further evolved their sound becoming more experimental and minimalist to create their latest album.

At the end of 2024 the band released their fourth full studio album midnight which has a distinct dark, minimalistic and somber feeling especially if you compare it to the warmer sounds from their third studio album Tres. Aside from newest member Takumi Shiroeda influencing their new direction, they also worked together with several other artists such as British producer Loraine James (featured on songs 24:59 & Two Five), violinist Shuntaro Tsuneda, cellist Seigen Tokuzawa, and percussionist Taikimen. All these musicians coming together can be experienced through all the distinct experimental sounds on the album, almost turning an album listen into a theatrical show.

If you wish to experience midnight to the fullest, make sure to catch them at one of their shows in Germany and the Netherlands or one of the two festivals they’re playing in the United Kingdom and Belgium. Make sure to keep an eye on their socials for any changes to their schedule.
