They are returning to Europe again for the third time, the musical ensemble Minyo Crusaders have another summer tour planned. The tour kicks off at Roskilde festival this year and consists of 16 (festival) shows in 9 countries. According to UK-based record label Mais Um, fans can look forward to old favourites and tracks that will appear on their new album.
After releasing Echoes of Japan, the debut album of Minyo Crusaders, it got followed up by a mini-album in 2020, Minyo Cumbiero, where Minyo Crusaders joined forces with Colombian cumbia radicals Frente Cumbiero on Minyo Cumbiero to focus on combining Japanese folk songs with Colombian styles. And it appears that the ensemble has been working on a new album, although no details has been released about that.
The first time the group was in Europe for a tour, we had the chance to interview Katsumi Tanaka, guitarist and co-founder of Minyo Crusaders, to talk about the start of the group, combining min’yo and Latin, African, Caribbean and Asian rhythms, and the challenges of the group.
After the European tour, Minyo Crusaders will perform at Fuji Rock Festival and Sukiyaki Meets the World, where they will also perform with Frente Cumbiero for a special Minyo Cumbiero set.
