Akuyaku Reijou nanode Last Boss wo Kattemimashita (悪役令嬢なのでラスボスを飼ってみました)

Type: Anime
Studio: Maho Film
Genres: Comedy, Fantasy, Romance
Based on the eponymous manga by Sarasa Nagase and Mai Murasaki.

Starts airing: October 1st
Number of Episodes: Unknown

Because of her severe illness, a young girl has spent the bulk of her time in a hospital bed, playing otome games to pass the time. One day she suddenly finds herself in the middle of a scene from one of the games, as the villainess of the story, Irene Loren D’Autriche.

After being dumped by her childhood friend, who’s also the crown prince, Irene knows the tragic future that lies in store for her and decides to do everything she can to change it. She is determined to capture the heart of the game’s final boss Claudde Jeanne Elmeier, also known as the “Demon King”.

Will she succeed and outrun her fate, or will she fail and be bound to the horrible ending that awaits her?

Recommended by Yuki:
Honestly, this sounds like a fun story that could involve plenty of twists and turns. I expect they’ll make some jokes about otome games and their storylines as well and I hope it’ll have plenty of funny moments. If you’re a fan of romance, fantasy and comedy then you should definitely add this one to your watchlist!

Poputepipikku 2nd Season (ポプテピピック)

Type: Anime
Studio: Kamikaze Douga, Space Neko Company
Genres: Comedy
Based on the manga Poputepipikku by bkub Ookawa.

Starts airing: October 2nd
Number of Episodes: 12

A series of absurd comedy sketches featuring schoolgirls Popuko and Pipimi. Gags revolve around pop culture and being weird. It is impossible to explain the plot (as there isn’t one).

Recommended by  AlexD:
Where it is easy to overlook Pop Team Epic as oddball humour an insane amount of effort is put into each episode. Where there is one overarching style, some skits are animated in different styles or even techniques (one last season used a paper flip chart). Not to mention the variety of different voice actors they get to voice the pair as it changes each episode. This is not one to miss.

Shinmai Renkinjutsushi no Tenpo Keiei (新米錬金術師の店舗経営)

Type: Anime
Studio: ENGI
Genres: Adventure, Fantasy, Slice of Life
Based on the eponymous manga by Fuumi and Mizuho Itsuki.

Starts airing: October 3rd
Number of Episodes: 12

Sarasa aims to become a master alchemist. She lives a peaceful life serving the range of customers that attend her atelier, while experimenting with different ingredients and materials as she hones her craft.

Recommended by PHX:
I think there is potential for a lot of entertainment as experiments fail and Sarasa potentially becomes involved in the adventures of her customers. But sometimes it is just nice to have an anime that runs at a more sedate pace and is more about the character interaction.

Mushikaburi-hime (虫かぶり姫)

Type: Anime
Studio: Madhouse
Genres: Drama, Romance
Based on the eponymous manga by Satsuki Shiina and Yui.

Starts airing: October 6th
Number of Episodes: 12

Eliana Bernstein’s great love for books started early on, from the time she could read she wanted nothing more than to read. Nicknamed the “Bibliophile Princess”, this princess had no interest in fulfilling her duty to find a suitor. Crown Prince Christopher Selkirk Asherald comes along and solves her problem with a proposal: He will make sure she has time to read her precious books and in return she will be his fiancée in name only.

The coming years Eliana learns to open herself to others. But eventually their “relationship” comes to an end, which shouldn’t be a problem for a princess who loves books more than people. When Christopher starts to grow close with another girl, Eliana realises that she cares about him more than she thought she did.

Recommended by Yuki:
The first thing that drew me to this anime was the image attached to it. The style and colours of the characters give off a very fairytale-esque vibe, which fits well with the story. As a fan of romance anime, I think this storyline offers plenty of opportunity for endearing moments and also a little bit of heart ache and drama.

Do It Yourself!! (Do It Yourself!! -どぅー・いっと・ゆあせるふ-)

Type: Anime
Studio: Pine Jam
Genres: Comedy, Slice of Life

Starts airing: October 6th
Number of episodes: Unknown

When these ambitious girls embark on their high school hobby adventure, the curiosity to craft struck them! Can they really “DIY” the projects or will they fail miserably? It will be a learning experience for sure and time and practice will tell.

Recommended by Natsu:
I am a big fan of DIY projects, I have made a lot of furniture pieces while growing up and the memories that came with it were even more precious than the outcome. Looking forward to the many funny and proud moments that will be portrayed in this very motivational anime.

Bocchi the Rock! (ぼっち・ざ・ろっく!)

Type: Anime
Studio: CloverWorks
Genres: Comedy, Slice of Life
Based on the eponymous manga by Aki Hamaji.

Starts airing: October 9th
Number of Episodes: Unknown

A shy guitarist who dreams of being in a band, a drummer who needs a guitarist for their band… Will the meeting of Hitori Gotou and Nijika Ijichi lead to them both achieving their dreams…

Recommended by PHX:
CloverWorks have released a lot of popular anime recently, Spy x Family, My Dress-Up Darling and Persona 5 to name a few, so I think that this will turn out to be a good addition to the autumn line-up. The theme of high school girls forming a band, while not unique, could make it of interest to fans of the likes of K-On! and BanG Dream!.  Expect a mix of comedy and heart wrenching moments as the characters chart their course…

Chainsaw Man (チェンソーマン)

Type: Anime
Studio: MAPPA
Genres: Action, Adventure
Based on the manga Poputepipikku by Tatsuki Fujimoto.

Starts airing: October 12th
Number of Episodes: Unknown

Living a life of debt and trying to repay the yakuza, Denji is desperate for cash and willing to do anything. However, after doing a job killing devils is betrayed by the yakuza, who kill him thinking Denji has outlived his use. As Denji lays dead in a dumpster, Pochita, his devil pet, fuses with Denji, bringing him back to life and able to summon chainsaws from his body. Denji catches the eye of official Devil Hunters who offer him a job in place of killing him.

Recommended by AlexD:
From the outside this seems like a series that is all about blood and violence, which is true to some extent, but beneath that surface there is an intense thriller behind it. I also love the art style which MAPPA has translated well from the manga. It has an eerie nature that enhances the thriller experience. The manga is already a huge hit and it already looks like the anime is ready to step up and match it.

Urusei Yatsura (2022) (うる星やつら)

Type: Anime
Studio: David Production
Genres: Comedy, Romance, Sci-Fi
Based on the eponymous manga by Rumiko Takahashi.

Starts airing: October 14th
Number of Episodes: 46

In Urusei Yatsura planet Earth gets attacked by a race of aliens called Oni but instead of an all-out war they play a game of tag instead. On the side of the Oni they chose the King’s daughter to compete however Earth’s player gets chosen at random. This choice happened to fall onto our main character: a pretty average perverted teenager called Ataru. While playing this world changing game he keeps getting more and more involved with the excentric alien Lum. For extra motivation his childhood friend promises him that they could get married if he manages to save Earth but due to a misunderstanding Lum thinks Ataru wants to marry her. This love triangle is the start of a classic romantic comedy.

Recommended by Lecros:
If you would ask anyone about the most famous anime/manga characters you would probably hear about a lot of characters that came out in the past 20 years. There are a lot of unique characters that we have come to know and the fanbase is bigger than ever. If you would have had the chance to ask this a couple of years back or towards an average citizen in Japan they might mention some other characters like Doraemon or Detective Conan. One of the slightly less well-known characters that could belong in that category is (Invader) Lum. Recognizable by her bikini with tiger stripes and two horns her design might be a bit lackluster compared to modern characters but the manga is a very pleasant read and with the power of modern animation the anime will hopefully be just as pleasant.

4-nin wa Sorezore Uso wo Tsuku (4人はそれぞれウソをつく)

Type: Anime
Studio: Studio Flad
Genres: Comedy, Slice of Life
Based on the eponymous manga by Madoka Kashihara.

Starts airing: October 16th
Number of Episodes: Unknown

Everyone has a secret! Following the lives of four girls and the lies they tell to try to keep their secret… secret.

Recommended by PHX:
The plot seems so basic, but it also seems like it could be side splittingly funny and filled with crazy situations or stories coming about as a result of the girls’ efforts to hide their secret. Everyone needs a laugh right now, so I hope this will deliver a lot of them…

Kagami no Kojou (かがみの孤城)

Type: Anime
Studio: A-1 Pictures
Genres: Drama, Fantasy, Mystery

Starts airing: December 23rd

Seven students who are skipping school are hiding themselves away in their bedrooms, afraid to face their family and friends, when suddenly their mirrors start shining. Each of them touches their mirrors and they’re all pulled away from their lonely lives into a fairy tale castle. In this castle lives a masked girl, called Wolf Queen, and in her castle the students find refuge during school hours. Her castle becomes their playground.

Hidden within the walls of the castle there’s a key that can grant one wish and clues on how to find the key. But there are some rules: Each day by five o’clock they must leave the premises and the key must be found by the end of the schoolyear. If these conditions aren’t met they’ll suffer a fatal end.

They soon discover that only those who are brave enough to share their stories will be saved. They have to open to up to one another and be vulnerable in order to be set free.

Recommended by Yuki:
A mysterious and probably moving film about internal suffering and working through it. I wonder why all of these kids stay home from school and what they’re going through, but mostly I hope to see a story unfold where they lean on one another and find their way through the darkness. There’ll probably be some drama involved, but overall I hope the story ends on a positive note.

Text of "Bandcamp Friday" and "Suggestions October 2022" on top of a radio, edited in a way that there was a glitch. The result is that there are more radio's in the image. With added filters it is made colourful with the added colours of red, blue and green and mixes of that.
