The Danish convention J-Popcon has announced that it will move the 2021 edition of the convention until later in the year, which will be October. Originally it was moved from May 2020 to February 2021 because of the current COVID-19 situation and the regulations taken by the government. At the time of that decision, April of this year, the organisation behind the convention, J-Popkai, indicated that this was the first date they could get and that it was realistic. The organisation has now decided that it has become clear that J-Popcon could not be held in February 2021. The new dates for J-Popcon 2021 will be 15, 16 and 17 October at the regular location, DGI-Byen. In February 2021, they will hold their online event that they have named J-Popconline.
The organisation shared a message on their social media about this decision: “It has been quite the year and it has certainly not been easy as an event. It felt surreal to move J-Popcon 2020 to February 2021, especially since that meant no J-Popcon this year. We have been just as restless as you and have missed our convention, but there was nothing else we could do. It took its time to refund all of your tickets, but with the support from the government, the future looks just a bit brighter to us. As many of you probably anticipated, it was not the end of it. As we got closer to 2021, it became clear that J-Popcon could not be held in February. We miss DGI-Byen, our guests, and the lovely con-stress more than ever, but it is important to take the current restrictions into account.”
Since J-Popcon started out 20 years ago, this year was supposed to be the year where the convention would celebrate their 20th-anniversary.
