The current ongoing situation has been a cause of a lot of extra video material, live performances on various streaming platforms and inspiration for new songs. With the very slow start of live performances in live venues, several bands are trying to get together for rehearsals to prepare themselves for the live shows with an audience. One of those bands preparing for their comeback on stage is Seventeen Years Old And Berlin Wall (17歳とベルリンの壁).

In preparation for the upcoming one-man show, in which the band Seventeen Years Old And Berlin Wall will present their newest mini-album in TSUTAYA O-Nest, the band decided to make a video of their repetition in a documentary style. The video includes a rehearsal the band did in July, with band member interviews mixed with the preparations and in the end a short performance. In total, a video of almost 30 minutes got presented for those who were curious about the next steps of Seventeen Years Old And Berlin Wall.

Inspired by shoegaze, guitar pop and dream pop, the four-piece has been active since 2013. It never came to an album, but to date, the band has managed to produce several mini-albums, starting in 2015 with Aspect, in 2017 with Reflect, 2018 with Object. It didn’t just stop at mini-albums, because besides a 7″ release the band also contributed to a compilation shoegaze album and a split single with the band me in grasshopper. Who knows that the next step will become a full album, but first let’s talk about their release that will come out pretty soon.

On 5th of August, their fourth mini-album will be released, with as title Abstract. Fitting with the titles of their earlier releases, as a sort of series spread over five years, for those following Seventeen Years Old And Berlin Wall might have noticed the use of titles that always end in the same style. Fans have been waiting a couple of years on this new release, since the release of Object in 2018. Abstract consists of 6 tracks, will be sold physically but will be available on the streaming services.

For those currently staying in Japan and interested to see the band live, they will perform on Saturday 29th of August at TSUTAYA O-Nest. Find more information on their website.

Still from OTO MAYUMI's music video for the song "だって (Datte)". The singer-songwriter is standing in front of a wall on which a beamer shines seemingly psychedelic-like patterns. As she stands between the beamer and wall, a shadow of herself is created on the wall. She looks up after dancing. The video is directed by Pierluigi Patella.
