The organisation behind Viencon, a cosplay-focused convention that takes place at Centerparcs de Limburgse Peel in The Netherlands, has announced that the 2020 edition will get postponed to 2021. It is also decided that the theme will stay the same, it will still be The Year of the Ducky.
Originally, the third edition of the Summer event was planned for 28 until 31 August 2020. Many large-scale events (with a permit) were already banned by the Dutch government, earlier this week they shared an extension of that ban until the 1st of September. The reason for the organisation of Viencon to cancel the 2020 edition was shared in a message on their website: “Since it’s not possible to guarantee everyone’s safety and uphold the 1,5 meters of distance at Viencon we will be moving our event to next year.”
The organisation made the decision to organise the new edition of Viencon in the Summer of 2021, to be precise in the weekend of 27 until the 30th of August. This means that the fans of this event have to wait much longer to enjoy their weekend with like-minded people in a bungalow and water park in The Netherlands. For those who were this year in doubt if they should choose for a visit at Summer festival Viencon or Japan-related convention Abunai!, have to make a hard choice next year as well, since both events are again planned in the same weekend.
All the current bookings will automatically be transferred to next year. Those who decide to keep their booking for 2021, will receive a special button as a thank you. Since Viencon is a young convention, the existence depends on the support of their visitors. If you want to cancel your booking, you can send an email to Viencon. More information can be found on the website of Viencon.
All changes of Japan-related events and events where Japanese musicians are planned to perform are compiled in a list that you can find here. This list will be regularly updated.
