Dutch festival Complexity Fest announced new names for the 2020-edition that will take place on 14 and 15 February at Patronaat in Haarlem. The names that stood out are the Japanese bands GOAT and Otoboke Beaver.
Both bands performed before in The Netherlands, GOAT have been performing a couple of times in the country, they were even in Europe last month for a short tour. For the punk-rock-garage quartet from Kyoto, Otoboke Beaver, it will be the second time, as they performed at Lowlands earlier this year.
The indoor metal festival will take place for the fifth time at Patronaat. 14 February will be a special pre-party and the focus of the festival is to deliver musical variation and widening the scope.
Earlier, the organisation announced Dragged Into Sunlight, Thank You Scientist, Herod, Our Oceans, Pijn and Vasa for the programme. More artists will be confirmed later on but if you are already interested to go to this festival, it is possible to get regular tickets for € 39,50.
The avant-garde group GOAT consists of Koshiro Hino (percussion/bass), Akihiko Ando (percussion/sax), Takafumi Okada (percussion/drum), and Tomoyuki Hamamoto (percussion) and creates music unlike many of the rock bands. In their percussive songs, they mute the melodic instruments to reinforce the beat, and make frequent use of harmonics played outside the twelve-tone. After going through a reshape in early 2017 with a new lineup, they have moved on to build compositions that explore rhythmic aspect even further, centring on intertwining patterns of repetitive rhythms.
The name Otoboke Beaver is taken from a local love hotel and got formed in the Summer of 2009. The band calls itself as the Japanese ‘knock out of pound cake’ band and sings only in Kyoto street language. Otoboke Beaver consists of head vocalist and guitarist Accorinrin, guitarist Yoyoyoshie, bassist Hiro-chan and drummer Pop. Earlier this year, the band released the album ITEKOMA HITS, a compilation album with a few new tracks. Otoboke Beaver will have a couple more shows planned in The Netherlands.
