Ramen, a well-known dish for lovers of Japan and Japanese food, will have its own festival in Amsterdam on 17 February 2019. The location for this festival, the Amsterdam Ramen Festival, at De Bajes on the Utrechtsestraat. De Bajes is the very first street art restaurant in Europe.

The organiser of this first ramen festival is Susam Pang: “I am a huge fan of ramen. My dream was a festival in Amsterdam where you can try different types of ramen, but when this festival did not happen I decided to organise the Amsterdam Ramen Festival myself.”

The festival is meant for anyone who can slurp ramen. Young or old, ramen expert or beginner, everyone is welcome. Pang: “I would really like it if stupid ramen fans tell their friends that windows are not so familiar, it is a perfect opportunity to try different ramen.”

A journey along different ramen tastes

Ramen with chicken, tonkotsu ramen, but also vegetarian ramen, they are all represented at the Amsterdam Ramen Festival. During the festival the following stands will serve ramen: Tokyo Ramen Iki (now two locations in Amsterdam), Sushilee, Ramen Brothers from Haarlem, KU Kitchen & Bar, Vatten Ramen (three ramen restaurants in Amsterdam) and Aginamu. At Kotobuki, Food Escape and Food of Japan you can go for Japanese snacks such as fried Japanese chicken, takoyaki, hearty Japanese pancakes, yakitori, karaage sticks, but also Japanese desserts such as mochi, dorayaki, takoyaki.

Karaoke

In addition to the shared love for ramen, People from Amsterdam and Japanese still have a common denominator: karaoke. Susam: “A ramen festival without karaoke is unthinkable.” In addition to various ramen booths where visitors can buy windows, they can sing along with Japanese songs at the festival. For those who can not read Japanese there are also English songs.

The launch of the ramen burger

During the ramen festival a unique dish will be introduced: the ramen burger. DThis is a burger where the meat (or vegetables) is not sandwiched between two rolls, but between two slices of ramen noodles. Chef Justin Brown (known from The Chippy and Bao Buns Amsterdam) will make these ramen burgers for the visitors of this event.

On Wednesday 23 January 2019 at 12.00, the ticket sale of the Amsterdam Ramen Festival begins.
