Roho Ulio Toweka can be found on the split release with Taiwanese psych fuzz band CROCODELIA that was released in August of 2018. An interesting combination, as the music of CROCODELIA on this split release, is heavier than the song of KUUNATIC.
The song of KUUNATIC combines the well-known tribal rhythm with different genres: a combination of oriental world and Afro-inspired beats. This combination alone makes the song very engrossing and addicting. The words that are sung by the trio, makes it a complete mysterious song, although they are not singing gibberish. After some searching for the meaning of the song title, it seems that the title is in the Swahili language, which means The Spirit That’s Falling Down or Disappearing.
The repeating rhythm and singing make it easy to not concentrate on what KUUNATIC are singing. But is that important? Although not heavy, it is a strong song as it is almost hypnotising and easy to listen to one after another. The music video is a fun additive to have for the band to promote itself. It complements the song well.
In the video, you can see a familiar face, namely musician Ikuma Kawabe (active for Dhidalah and ex-Church of Misery guitarist) who plays the guard of the sacred object, a geometry object. The video supports the song very well where the director played with lightness and darkness in combination with the quick switching between scenes. In the music video, you can see a storyline where the three ladies seem to do a ritual with dancing and music to help the girl that got haunted. Although that is discussable.
