This is not a sponsored review and because of this I won’t mention where I bought this set, if you do an online search using the name of this kit you’ll be able to find this one in several webshops.
Heart – Okashi na Salon version 2 – Simple
Price: ± €3
Extra supplies: None
This kit includes candies and a sort of candy press which you can decorate to look like a face with the stickers included. The candy is supposed to be the girls’ hair when you press it out and is supposed to be styled and cut, literally translated Okashi na Salon means Strange/Funny Salon, which seems appropriate. There are four sticker sets available and it’s a surprise which one you get.
Flavour: ♥
The candies have a cola flavour to them, but a lot milder than you’d expect from the strong scent. They aren’t overly sweet and didn’t have a very dominant flavour.
Time needed: ⧗
You can spend as little or as much time as you’d like on this kit, styling cutting and redoing the ‘hair’. If you buy more knead able candies you can spend even more time on it.
Difficulty level: ★
While the steps, kneading the candy and pressing it out, are fairly simple you can make doing the ‘hair’ as difficult as you’d like. The ‘hair’ does get squished quite easily, so be gentle. The scissors were a bit stiff, so it might help to open and close them a few times before you start cutting the ‘hair’.
Similarity: ??
The final product looks pretty similar, but the colour is a bit off. On the packaging it also seems like you wouldn’t see any ‘bald’ spots on the head no matter what hairstyle you make, but that’s almost impossible to achieve. Maybe they added a few cut off strands of ‘hairs’ to create that volume.
TIP: Kneading the candy into sort of a rectangular/oval shape, as shown in the video, gives you a better result if you’re trying to get all the ‘hairs’ the same length. If you make a ball, as suggested on the packaging, the hairs on the sides are usually shorter than the ones in the middle.
Want to enjoy these kits again?
Clean the mould with warm water, after using it, and let it air dry. Don’t use soap to clean the mould.
If you want to reuse the mould you could buy some more knead able candies or use fondant to make more ‘hair’.
